There are a ton of different weapons to find as you make your way through The Outer Worlds 2. However, as is the case with most things in life, they weren't all made equal. There are a few standout weapons that are well worth tracking down and putting to use over others. In this guide, I'll run through the five best weapons in The Outer Worlds 2, so you know what to prioritize throughout your adventure across the Arcadian star system.
All Perks & Perk Requirements in Outer Worlds 2
There are almost 100 Perks Outer Worlds 2 players can get as they level up, as long as they fulfill all Perk requirements.
Best Weapons in The Outer Worlds 2
- Feedback Cannon
- Murder's Best Friend
- The Oracle
- The Simplifier
- Wham-Bam!
While melee weapons are obviously an option in The Outer Worlds 2, I've typically found them to be a little less effective than just sitting back and picking off enemies with guns. However, I have included the two real standout melee weapons in The Outer Worlds 2, in the list below for those pursuing melee builds.
Our list of the best weapons is in no particular order. They all have their strengths and weaknesses, and as such, are best in different scenarios or for specific builds.
Feedback Cannon
- Weapon Type: Marksman Rifle
- Damage Type: Shock
- Ammo Type: Shock Rods
- Damage: 55
- Where to Find It: Look for an anomaly rift northwest of Alexandra Station's Landing Pad on Golden Ridge. Use the rift modulator to reveal some rubble that you can jump across and open the locker on the platform at the top.
The Feedback Cannon is a personal favorite weapon in The Outer Worlds 2, not only because it can deal some serious damage to enemies, but because it's also very effective against automechanicals, which can sometimes be real bullet sponges. Not only that, but the Feedback Cannon has the 'Sonic Hertz' trait, which significantly increases damage dealt by the weapon when you yourself take damage. When you then deal damage, you'll use up some of that charge, but it can help wipe out enemies with ease.
Add on the fact that Shock Rods are one of the easiest ammo types to craft, with materials that are pretty common if you're regularly looting enemies and the environment and breaking down junk materials, and you've got a formidable addition to your arsenal.
Murder's Best Friend
- Weapon Type: Melee Light
- Damage Type: Physical
- Ammo Type: None
- Damage: 24
- Where to Find It: Purchase it from the vending machine on The Incognito for seven Advanced Decryption Keys.
Murder's Best Friend is the perfect weapon in The Outer Worlds 2 for those pursuing a stealthy melee build. After a stealth kill, your damage and crouch movement speed are increased by 20%. This stacks three times to a maximum of 60%, at which point your footsteps also become completely silent.
It's worth keeping in mind that these buffs will immediately be removed if an enemy spots you or you change weapons (regardless of whether you actually use the weapon). As such, keep this as your primary option in combat, pour points into Sneak and Melee, and you'll become a silent killing machine with this in your hands.
The Oracle
- Weapon Type: Assault Rifle
- Damage Type: Physical
- Ammo Type: Long Rounds
- Damage: 47 (x2)
- Where to Find It: Found in the observatory in a locked case on Golden Ridge. You can either use Lockpicking 12 to open the case, or get Abbot's Universal Key to open it. The key is given to you after completing the 'On the Trail of the Traitor' quest if you speak to Abbot Josef Newell just outside the building.
The Oracle is the weapon you want to use if you don't like aiming. By aiming down the sights, the weapon will lock-on to nearby enemies and the bullets will automatically track them down, regardless of whether or not you're actually aiming the weapon at them. It also has two empty mod slots, meaning you can make it a very powerful and versatile weapon. Its decent fire rate and the fact you can get it relatively early on in your adventure make it well worth your time picking up.
The Simplifier
- Weapon Type: Sniper Rifle
- Damage Type: Physical
- Ammo Type: Heavy Rounds
- Damage: 108
- Where to Find It: Collect it from by the window in the room with De Vries during the 'Fiends in High Places' quest.
The Simplifier is a fantastic option for those who like to take down their enemies undetected and from range. Not only does it boast a relatively high damage stat, but it has no damage falloff and near-perfect accuracy. It also has an empty mod slot, allowing you to add a silencer to it, making it the perfect long-range option for stealth builds.
You'll be able to get it about a third of the way through the game, so you won't need to wait too long to get it. However, it's the first really solid sniper you'll likely come across in the game, which can be a bummer for those wanting to start sniping from the get-go.
Wham-Bam!
- Weapon Type: Melee
- Damage Type: Physical
- Ammo Type: Shotgun
- Damage: 197
- Where to Find It: Can be found on the Dunsany brothers in the southwest of Golden Ridge at the Guardian Estates. If you're stealthy enough and have a high sneak skill, you can creep up behind them and pickpocket it. Alternatively, kill them and loot it from the body of the one holding it.
What's better than a giant hammer that can deal significant damage? A giant hammer that can deal significant damage and triggers a shotgun blast on impact. It's by no means an ideal weapon for all playstyles, as the swing speed is pretty low and you'll want to have some points in Melee to really bolster its firepower, but it still makes for a very fun weapon to use all the same.
Keep in mind that to trigger the shotgun blast on impact, you'll need to actually have shotgun ammo. If you don't, then you can still use the weapon, hits just won't trigger the shotgun blast.
