There are four main missions in The Outer Worlds 2 that are categorized as collection quests, one in each region. One on Paradise asks players to collect Science Magazines, one on Golden Ridge asks players to recover Murals, and one on Praetor asks players to recalibrate Lightning Towers. The Cloister collection quest tasks players to recover Sojourner's Logs from Excogitation Chapels located throughout the region.

How to Start The Cloister Collection Quest
Where to Start 'Deviations Under Duress' in Outer Worlds 2
To start the Deviations Under Duress mission and get started collecting Excogitation Logs on Cloister, head to Laplace Garden, an Order of the Ascendant stronghold just down the main path from the Cloister landing pad.
Once inside, look for a balding man meditating near the left side of the stream that runs through the area. This is Oracle Laureate Lesley Beckett. Talk to Beckett, and he will ask you if you have ever found an Excogitation Log or an Excogitation Chapel in your exploration of Cloister – setting you on the Deviations Under Duress mission.
You can also start this mission by finding an Excogitation Chapel in Cloister and picking up the Sovereign Log contained within. Ultimately, you will have to return to Laureate Beckett to get the mission reward, but you don't necessarily need to talk to him to start the quest.
What Do You Get For Finding Every Log in Outer Worlds 2?
Return to Laureate Beckett after finding every Sovereign Log and Excogitation Chapel location in Outer Worlds 2, and you will earn both a small XP reward (as standard for completing missions) as well as a High Security Lockbox. You must use Advanced Decryption Keys on the Incognito to unlock this lockbox.
You will also earn the Cloister Excogitation Logs CEL-ebration achievement upon completing the 'Deviations Under Duress' mission.
Where To Find All Excogitation Logs in Outer Worlds 2
Every Excogitation Log Location on Cloister
Outer Worlds 2 Cloister Log Location 1: East From Winter's Grasp
- Location Notes: To get to the top of the cliff, look for a set of ropes leading up the cliffside just below this location, then carefully double-jump up the icy ledges nearby to get to the top.
Outer Worlds 2 Cloister Chapel Location 2: Northeast of The Archive
- Location Notes: Go northeast from The Archive and Newton, and through a Scrapper Camp, to find this Chapel. You must kill Buckshot Bill, a named Scrapper, to find the key to enter the Chapel and get this Sojourner's Log.
Outer Worlds 2 Cloister Log Location 3: Near The Far Northern Bridge
- Location Notes: Head directly northwest from the previous Excogitation Chapel location and look for this Chapel on the top of a cliff just north of a bridge. There are several ways to get inside using a variety of skills - the easiest is to simply use Engineering or the Brawny trait to break open the front door.
Outer Worlds 2 Cloister Chapel Location 4: Underlands, via The Archive
- Location Notes: After you gain access to The Archive, you will eventually end up in an area beneath Cloister called The Underlands. Eventually, you will access a lift that will take you back to the surface - one of these lifts leads to the Chapel on top of the hill at the location marked on the map above.
