During the introduction sequence at Horizon Point, players will be given the Medical Inhaler in The Outer Worlds 2. This item serves as your primary source of healing in Outer Worlds 2, but after a few uses, you might notice that your Inhaler Charges are not recharging. Indeed, when you use your Inhaler, it will not automatically recharge its total number of uses.
Instead, to get more Inhaler Charges, Outer Worlds 2 players must look around the world for ways to get more Inhaler uses. There are three methods to get more Inhaler charges (really two, plus one that enhances another): using AutoDoc stations, picking up Drug items that increase Inhaler Charges by a percentage, and acquiring the Connoisseur perk.
Find an AutoDoc Station
For more AutoDoc locations, check out our Golden Ridge Interactive Map and Cloister Interactive Map.
AutoDocs Grant 2x Inhaler Charges in Outer Worlds 2
AutoDoc stations can be found throughout every location in Outer Worlds 2. Using one will completely refresh your Health, remove any status effects, and give you 2x full Inhaler charges for free. Every AutoDoc station can only be used once to restore Inhaler Charges.
There is no max limit on how many Inhaler Charges you can have at once, so feel free to use these even if you are at (or close to) full Health. Though the AutoDoc will be consumed, you'll gain two heals to use later on.
Collect Items That Grant A Percentage of a Charge
Some Items Reward Inhaler Charge Percent Upon Pickup
Pay close attention to the item descriptions of objects you pick up as you explore the game, and you may notice that there are two main types of consumable pickups: food/drink and drugs.
Though most consumable items you find throughout Arcadia are food or drink items that exclusively restore Health, some are considered Drug items, which restore a portion of an Inhaler Charge instead.
These pickups can typically be found in interior areas, especially medical and science-related buildings.
These items are not added to your inventory and are immediately consumed for the Inhaler Charge value shown in the item description, typically anywhere from 8% to 32% or higher. When you go above 100% (as indicated by the bar below the Inhaler icon), you'll get a Charge!
Pick the Connoisseur Perk For Additional Charges
The Connoiseur Perk Increases Charge Amount Gained from Drugs
One of the best ways to get more Inhaler Charges in Outer Worlds 2 is to pick up the Connoisseur perk as early as possible. This perk has two effects: 25% increased Health restoration from food and drink, and 25% extra Inhaler Charge percentage from Drug items.
The best part of the Connoisseur perk is that it only requires you to invest one Skill Point into Medical. The earlier you get this perk, the more charges you will be able to build up over time.
This is the only standard perk that increases Inhaler Charge gain in Outer Worlds 2, so if you find yourself using your Inhaler to heal, consider spending a Skill Point on your next level up (and a Perk Point at your next even level) to pick up this useful bonus.
