While you'll always have your inhaler to restore your health, as you take on tougher enemies in The Outer Worlds 2, you'll find that they can wipe out more and more of your health in a single hit. As such, you're going to want to toughen up, and the best way to do that is by increasing your max health. In this guide, I'll explain all of the ways you can increase max health in The Outer Worlds 2, so you can tank hits without dying.

The Outer Worlds 2's game director reveals why a staple RPG feature is missing from Obsidian's upcoming title.
Every Way to Increase Max Health in The Outer Worlds 2
There are three different ways you can increase max health in The Outer Worlds 2: leveling up, equipping certain bits of armor or headgear, and unlocking specific perks. I've explained each of these in further detail below.
Leveling Up
This one's pretty straightforward, so I won't waste a ton of time on it. Each time you level up, your max health will be increased by a fair amount. The specific amount varies from level to level, but as you'd expect from getting stronger, you'll be able to take more hits. If the other two avenues for increasing your max health don't appeal to you, this is always the fallback you'll have.
Perks
The Outer Worlds 2 has a ton of different perks for you to choose from that allow you to lean into a specific playstyle. However, if you're looking to tank more hits on a health bar, then there are two in particular that stand out.
- Bulletshield: Add +10% to your base health, and 10% damage resistance.
- Serial Killer: +2 max health every time you kill a human and collect their heart. The chance of a human dropping a heart is 100% if an enemy wasn't hostile before being killed.
The Serial Killer perk requires you to have the Pyschopath perk unlocked. Kind of makes sense, given, y'know, being a serial killer and all.
Combined, these two perks can make your character a serious tank. The Serial Killer perk, in particular, is arguably the best way to really boost your max health other than simply leveling up.
Equipping Armor and Headgear
While some armor and helmets will simply offer an 'armor' rating, others grant different buffs and abilities to your character when equipped. One of these buffs includes simply increasing your base health by a certain percentage while the item is equipped. For example, I had one helmet that increased base health by 5% and another that increased it by 15% and also provided further damage resistance.
Make sure that you're looking through your armor and headgear regularly to make sure that you're equipping the best pieces. Sometimes, the best gear isn't necessarily the pieces with the highest armor rating, but the ones that offer the best buffs.
