As indicated by V.A.L.E.R.I.E. As you try to figure out how to unlock the Commander's Safe, the three alcoholic beverages in the safe were put there by Niles in an attempt to get sober. You can consume any food item (including alcoholic drinks) for a small amount of Health recovery.

Where is the Commander's Safe Key?

There are two methods to open the Commander's Safe in Outer Worlds 2: find the Commander's Safe Key to open it, or reach Lockpick level 4 and have 1x Mag-Pick in your inventory. You don't have to find the Commander's Safe Key if you have a high enough Lockpick skill.

To get the Commander's Safe Key, Outer Worlds 2 players must first interact with the Crumpled List on the ground just to the left of the safe. This is a to-do list written by Niles, and the last note on the list says to "hide the safe key with VAL."

After reading this note, t alk to VAL on the Incognito and ask her, "Do you know where the keycard to the safe in the commander's quarters is?" She will explain that Niles gave it to her to hide in a place he couldn't find it – and reveals that the Commander's Safe Key location is behind the Skip Drive in the back of the ship.

Walk to the rear of the Incognito, crouch under the pipes, and l ook for a tiny key on the ground on the other side of the Skip Drive, hidden between the railings on the back of the Drive itself.

Bring this key back to the Commander's Quarters to unlock the Commander's Safe and earn a sizable chunk of Bits, get some useful tools, and find a collectible Tossball card.
