The Outer Worlds 2 will see you meeting companions, gathering new weapons and armor, upgrading your character, and of course, finding a ton of junk items along the way. While these items don't have any immediate use to you, the game informs you that these items can either be sold for extra credits to help with your spending sprees at vendors or broken down into crafting resources. If, like me, you're finding yourself a little confused on whether there's a 'better use' for junk items in The Outer Worlds 2, then fear not, as I've spent the time in the game figuring out the right answer for you.

The Outer Worlds 2's game director reveals why a staple RPG feature is missing from Obsidian's upcoming title.
What Should You Do with Junk Items in The Outer Worlds 2?
To Sell or to Break Down?
While it might be tempting to sell your collection of junk items for credits, I'd recommend breaking down any junk items in The Outer Worlds 2. This is because they're typically one of the best ways to get some of the less common crafting resources that you'll need to craft ammo for weapons, mods, or other consumable items to help you on your journey.
You'll also find that the price of ammo at vendors and vending machines is actually pretty steep. Depending on the weapons you're using and the difficulty level you're playing on, you might find that you're burning through a lot of ammo for your weapons, and so need plenty of it to keep progressing through the game.
As such, breaking down all your junk items into resources to then craft plenty of it for your preferred weapons is a far easier way to keep your ammunition supplies topped up. This also means you can then spend any credits you've got on better armor and weapons, or other consumables if you're really in a pinch.
Finally, it's worth pointing out that any old armor and weapons you're no longer using can be sold to vendors for significantly more money than you'll get from selling junk items. It's also true that gear can be broken down for a good amount of crafting resources. If you have duplicates of the same items, I found myself selling one and breaking down the other to ensure both my credits and resources continued to appear healthy as I progressed through the game.
Ultimately, what you do with your junk items as well as your old gear is up to you. However, in my experience, breaking down junk items meant I was never left needing a specific crafting material, and I never had any issues affording anything I wanted from a vendor.
