Each companion you meet in The Outer Worlds 2, has their own personal quest that you can choose to help them out with. In the case of Inez, she needs some help with the graft on her arm to give her a chance of rejoining the ranks of the Auntie's Choice army. If you choose to help her, you'll be given the 'Better Than Nature' quest, which tasks you with visiting Ethel and defeating one of two (or both) creatures to harvest a graft from them for Inez's arm. Not only does this give Inez longer to live, but you'll also get an additional perk for them in combat. So, should you choose the Raptidon Matriarch graft or the Skeleton Crabble graft for Inez in The Outer Worlds 2?
‘I Personally Want The Player to Understand Their Choices Are Permanent’: The Outer Worlds 2 Dev on Why Staple RPG Feature is Missing
The Outer Worlds 2's game director reveals why a staple RPG feature is missing from Obsidian's upcoming title.
Should You Choose the Raptidon Matriarch or Skeleton Crabble Graft for Inez in Outer Worlds 2's 'Better Than Nature' Quest?
Active Camo or Armor Piercing?
Each of the two grafts gives Inez a different ability. The Raptidon Matriarch graft essentially gives Inez an 'active camo' ability that she can use to give you health packs and remain undetected by enemies. On the other hand, the Skeleton Crabble grants her the ability to shoot armor-piercing rounds at enemies, which can significantly reduce their time to kill.
Having used both, I found that the Skeleton Crabble graft was the best option to give Inez. The armor-piercing round can make some trickier enemies a little bit more manageable, and I typically found that Inez would drop a health pack for me regardless, without the active camo buff that the Raptidon Matriarch graft grants.
Did she sometimes go down in the process? Sure, but in most cases, I was able to quickly revive her again without taking too much damage, or could finish the fight off on my own or with my other companion.
Obviously, the decision is entirely up to you and your preferred play style. If you typically err on the side of caution in combat situations, you might find that being able to receive health packs without Inez taking damage is a better fit. Alternatively, if you prefer an 'all-guns-blazing' approach like me, then giving Inez some extra firepower is probably going to feel like the better option.
While the quest will give you two objectives, one for defeating each creature, you technically only need to defeat one if you want to. I'd still recommend defeating both, as the Raptidon Matriarch's cave also leads to a convenient way into the Vox Relay. The additional XP you'll earn from completing both will help you level up faster, too.
It's worth noting that once you choose a graft for Inez, you won't be able to return to Ethel to change to the other one. You'll be locked into that decision for the remainder of your playthrough. If you want to see how each one plays, I'd recommend making a save before you choose one. That way, you can try it out, see if you like it, and then switch to the other if you prefer.
