Overwatch 2 has launched a fresh version of the Loverwatch dating sim, but before anyone gets too excited, it's only available in China. Since its launch, Overwatch 2 has hosted a variety of in-game events for players, but those outside of China wishing for another round of Loverwatch are unfortunately left out, at least for the time being.
For those unfamiliar with Loverwatch, it was a short-lived dating sim browser game based around the Overwatch franchise. Offered to players as a parody, the Loverwatch dating sim was a hilariously fun way to see Overwatch 2 in a new light. It's unclear why the new take on Loverwatch is only available in China at the moment, but there is actually more than one downside to the event. The heroes featured in Loverwatch are all decked out in some truly great outfits, raising questions as to why these styles haven't been used as skins yet.
Overwatch 2: 14 Best Female Heroes
Diverse and interesting, Overwatch 2's roster of female heroes is quite commendable, with the following characters standing out the most.
Overwatch 2 Has a Golden Opportunity With its Loverwatch Outfits That Can't Be Missed
Pictures of heroes like Cassidy, Junker Queen, Lifeweaver, Mauga, Juno, D.Va, and Genji have been floating around the internet since the event launched, and each character is dressed to the nines. Cassidy, Genji, and Junker Queen's outfits have been personal favorites, but no matter which outfit one prefers, it's clear that Blizzard has been missing a big opportunity with its original skins.
Loverwatch's Sequel Hopefully Opens the Door for Some Fun-Loving Skins
Whether it's Cassidy's disco-inspired purple button-up shirt and white pants or Junker Queen's flowing outfit that looks like it came from the wardrobe of a warrior goddess, Overwatch 2 can clearly up its skin game. Unfortunately, this wouldn't be the first time that Blizzard has overlooked some great ideas for cosmetics, but if the demand is high enough from players, the developer will hopefully see the benefit in bringing these Loverwatch looks to the main game, and not just in China.
Loverwatch in general hopefully gets spread worldwide. While dating sims aren't for everyone, even if they're a parody, the first run of Loverwatch was a big success within the community. It would be surprising if Blizzard didn't expand Loverwatch's reach eventually, but only time will tell. Right now, it remains an exclusive event, but if it became available in other countries, it would likely ignite calls from other players to make these outfits official hero skins. Considering that Overwatch 2 was made available in China after two years of not being playable in the country, it makes sense for Blizzard to bring forth special events for the region, but the rest of the player-base can hopefully get a slice of the pie someday, too.
The Loverwatch dating sim was a hilariously fun way to see Overwatch 2 in a new light.
It's Unclear if Loverwatch Will Expand to Other Countries
So far, Blizzard hasn't revealed any plans to bring Loverwatch back to the rest of the players across the globe, so right now, those wishing for another dating sim parody will have to live vicariously through fellow players in China. Outfits like Genji's three-piece suit complete with his face mask are simply really cool, and getting a fresh roster of these Loverwatch styles would be a good way to freshen up Overwatch 2 matches. Collaborations like the recent G.I. Joe crossover are fun in their own right, but original, sharp, and aesthetically eye-catching outfits like Loverwatch's bring more originality.
For those outside of China, Loverwatch remains a distant memory. The fun parody was a unique way to shake up the Overwatch 2 formula, and Blizzard hopefully hasn't closed the door on allowing those moments to be worldwide events.
