  • An Overwatch 2 fan imagines Juno as Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion with a detailed skin concept.
  • Previous Overwatch 2 crossovers include One-Punch Man and Cowboy Bebop, offering themed skins.
  • Despite the originality of this Juno concept, player opinions remain divided over her effectiveness in-game.

A creative Overwatch 2 fan has shared a neat skin concept that transforms Juno into Rei Ayanami from Neon Genesis Evangelion. Last year, Overwatch 2 started a collaboration with famous IPs and brought content based on two popular names from Japanese pop culture.

The wave of crossovers began with One-Punch Man, a manga that follows the journey of Saitama, who can defeat his opponents with just one punch. In a clever connection, Doomfist got the Saitama skin, with other cosmetics for Genji (Genos), Kiriko (Terrible Tornado), and Soldier 76 (Mumen Rider). Later came the collaboration with Cowboy Bepop, which follows the journey of a team of bounty hunters trying to make a living through space, with skins released for Cassidy (Spike Spiegel), Ashe (Faye Valentine), Shadow (Ed), Mauga (Jet Black), and Wrecking Ball (Ein). Now, an Overwatch 2 fan has imagined what the game's crossover with another beloved Japanese IP would be like.

Reddit user ranikirn created a skin concept for Juno based on Rei Ayanami, one of the characters from the big hit Neon Genesis Evangelion. The skin gives the hero the same suit worn by Ayanami, which consists of a mostly white and blue full-body outfit, with green and orange details. The concept also gives Juno the same short pale blue haircut, eye color, and design as the Evangelion character. Although they confess to “not having worked much on the characterization of the equipment,” Juno's torpedoes have been given the shape and colors of Evangelion Unit-00, which is piloted by Rei Ayanami.

Impressive Overwatch 2 Concept Creates Evangelion Skin for Juno

Known as the “First Child,” Rei Ayanami is one of the main characters in Evangelion. Initially, little is known about her origin, but as the plot progresses, her mysterious history is revealed, including the fact that she is the clone of Shinji Ikari's mother. Juno, meanwhile, is the latest character to join Overwatch 2 with the launch of Season 12. Formerly known as the “Space Ranger,” Juno was born and raised on Mars, making her the only Martian character in Blizzard's shooter.

Despite her long-awaited debut, Juno has divided players over the effectiveness of her kit since Blizzard's test before her addition to the game. Although Juno repeated the Venture controversy in terms of the lack of new outfits, the community wasted no time in sharing their ideas. Some examples include a Shadow the Hedgehog skin concept, another based on Nuka-Girl from Fallout, and an original idea that turns Juno into an alien.
