Overwatch 2 has revealed that the trial for Freja will take place between March 21 and 24, with the hero’s official reveal taking place shortly before then. Players can expect a hero trailer, motion comic, and gameplay trailer for the new Overwatch 2 character in the days leading up to her weekend playtest.

Recently, Blizzard held an Overwatch 2 Spotlight event that showcased tons of new content coming in 2025, including Season 15’s Perks and Loot Boxes, Season 16’s Stadium game mode, and several new maps that are in development. The broadcast also revealed the next two characters coming to Overwatch 2, including Freja, a Nordic bounty hunter and damage hero coming in Season 16.

However, fans will be able to try out this new hero well before her official release. Overwatch 2 just revealed that the Freja gameplay trial will take place the weekend of March 21, giving players 72 hours to test out the damage hero before the period ends on March 24. What’s more, players can expect a lore trailer on March 19, an Overwatch 2 motion comic like the ones for Hazard, Juno, and Venture on March 20, and a gameplay trailer when her trial begins.

Thanks to the content creators who attended the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event, fans already have a picture of how Freja will play. Her Revdraw Crossbow is a rapid-fire weapon that can launch precise explosive bolts with her alt fire, and is highly mobile with the horizontal Quick Dash and vertical Updraft movement abilities. Her Bola Shot ultimate wraps enemies in a hindering, explosive trap that pulls in nearby foes, and Freja’s Perks allow her to reveal enemies, gain more ultimate charge via her Bounting Hunting passive, and reduce the cooldowns of her other skills.

According to the in-game interface, Overwatch 2 Season 15 is set to end on April 22, meaning both Freja and Season 16 will arrive about a month after her trial period concludes. Players should expect the hero to receive a few balance adjustments on launch based on her performance during the playtest.

Around four months later, fans can expect the new support hero, codenamed Aqua, to arrive during Season 18. Though little is known about this character, Overwatch 2 game director Aaron Keller said he had “the coolest primary fire” in the game, and that his movement and abilities were “really neat.” Between Freja, Aqua, and the mysterious gladiator hero Overwatch 2 has been teasing for Season 20, players will have plenty of new characters to master later this year.
