During BlizzCon 2023, Overwatch 2 revealed both Venture and Juno as new heroes coming in 2024. New Overwatch Game Isn't What Fans Expect

Blizzard may be working on an Overwatch game that isn't what some fans expect according to a well-known source in the industry.

Now, Overwatch 2 has given fans an official teaser for this new hero a full season early. Near the end of the trailer for Overwatch 2 Season 13, the scene shifts to the spawn on Oasis, which has been ransacked. The camera then pans over to the wall, now tagged with bright graffiti spelling out “Phreaks.” A masculine voice with a thick Scottish accent – assumedly belonging to the new hero – then says “It’s lookin’ like a revolution,” suggesting hero 42 is likely the leader of the Phreaks responsible for this scene.

New Tank Hero Teased for Overwatch 2 Season 14

This new Overwatch 2 hero didn’t come from nowhere. One of the early hero concepts from Overwatch was named Phreak, sporting a green mohawk, leather jacket, and other punk elements. Parts of Phreak’s design were used for Junker Queen, including their original “Attract” ability, but a character matching their general appearance could be seen during the Overwatch cinematic trailer, fighting Parisian police alongside their fellow revolutionaries – one of whom seems to have a jacket that says “Phreaks” on it. Considering the icon leaked at BlizzCon shares a similar look, Overwatch fans might have actually first seen hero 42 a decade ago.

Hero 42 was between Sigma and Winston, implying that their name begins with S, T, U, V, or W – though this alphabetical placement could also use their code name in the same way Overwatch 2 did with Juno, originally known as Space Ranger. In either sense, the new hero’s name is probably not Phreak, as that seems to now be the name of their gang of rebels instead.

It remains to be seen what sort of abilities hero 42 will have, though they will almost certainly be a tank. Their likely appearance in the Overwatch cinematic trailer sported a pipe bomb-like bat, as well as several prosthetic limbs, which could manifest in their final design and kit. Players can expect to learn more about the hero over the next two months in Season 13, leading up to their expected Season 14 release in mid-December.
