Recently, Overwatch 2 shared a video featuring Stephane Cornicard, the voice actor for the infamous villainous Omnic accountant Maximilien, reading “The Pocket King,” a short story released in October 2024 featuring the character. Ostensibly, the video was released to celebrate the addition of Maximilien’s Vault, a new personalized cosmetics store added in the Overwatch 2 mid-Season 14 update.

However, some players think this Storytime video holds a deeper connection to the future of Overwatch 2. Early on in the 30-minute video, a new animation featuring Maximilien typing on a translucent virtual console can be seen. Keen-eyed Overwatch 2 fan and lore hunter Hazelet noticed the Omnic types the number “43” on the numpad – and given the game currently has 42 heroes, she thinks the video may be a subtle hint that Maximilien could be the next playable character in the game.
“The Pocket King” Storytime – Teaser for Maximilien in Overwatch 2?
Though Maximilien is an accountant and proprietor of the Casino Monaco on paper, he is secretly a part of the inner circle of Talon. An expert money-launderer, Maximilien is prominently featured in the Storm Rising Overwatch Archives event, has either shown up or been mentioned in several comics, voice lines, and other media, least of all “The Pocket King," and as the proprietor of Maximilien's Vault. This has led the Omnic to be a top contender among fans for his inclusion as a hero – and the fact that he got a narrated Storytime video alongside the likes of other recent playable Overwatch 2 characters like Hazard, Venture, and Juno, makes it seem like it could be a very real possibility.
As a non-combatant, it is hard to imagine what the Omnic accountant could do as a playable hero. That said, some gamers surmise he could fight primarily through summoning minions – and that Bastion’s Configuration: Reinforcements Ultimate from Overwatch 2’s Mirrorwatch might have been a test for such an ability.
Juno and Hazard, both of whom were teased in-game a full season ahead of their addition to Overwatch 2, had playtest periods about a month before their respective seasons. Assuming Hero 43 follows a similar pattern, another teaser could appear at the start of Season 15 on February 18, a full reveal and playtest will likely take place in late March or early April, with the Season 16 character arriving no later than early May. If Maximilien is indeed the next hero in Overwatch 2, fans won’t have to wait long to find out.
