In Overwatch 2, most players will learn of the Avoid As Teammate System and choose to use it at some point to avoid being matched up alongside toxic or aggressive individuals or even simply dodge players who struggle to work well with others efficiently.
With the arrival of Season 10, the Overwatch 2 devs also revealed a series of changes that are to be made to the Avoid As Teammate function. This includes the expansion of available slots, the ability to pin users, and a priority ladder system.

How Does the Avoid Teammate System Rework Function in Overwatch 2?
In its current state in Overwatch 2, the Avoid As Teammate system enables each player to avoid up to three other players at a time in total, preventing you from being matched into the same team as these targets. However, after Season 10 arrived, Overwatch 2 devs revealed that this system is receiving a much-anticipated touch-up. While these changes aren't expected to go live in the game until Season 12, a breakdown of how this system will now work has already been provided for players to glance over in the meantime.
With the new version of the Avoid As Teammate system, every player will be able to avoid up to 10 players at the same time. Within these 10 slots, there are also 3 pinned slots in which these three players will never be replaced as new avoided players are added to the list. For the non-pinned slots, these spaces will operate on a priority ladder system.
This means that despite you having 'avoided' these players, the lower they are on your priority list, the more chance you have of still being matched up on the same team as them regardless - though this is still relatively unlikely to happen unless you're playing at a rank with a smaller user pool, such as GM or Champion, or playing during odd hours in which there are generally fewer people online at a time. As you add new avoided players to an already filled-up avoid list, new players will replace the oldest non-pinned avoided player.
These changes help ensure that players across all ranks benefit from the system, providing both an answer for the long-awaited extra avoid slots while also ensuring they don't create a hindrance in higher ranks, where players of smaller pools are more likely to be matched up alongside one another already.
