Summary

  • Mauga and Orisa are set to receive changes in Overwatch 2 to adjust their power levels, as the developers aim to further balance the game's meta.
  • Orisa was previously considered overpowered due to her high survivability and crowd control, while Mauga was labeled as broken due to his life steal, damage, and ultimate.
  • The developers are considering transferring more of Mauga's power to reward aggression and taking a look at where Orisa's power budget is allocated to improve their performance.

Overwatch 2 has confirmed that Mauga and Orisa will get changes to adjust their power level. Overwatch 2 is always changing to make the meta as balanced as possible, although it's not uncommon for heroes to become headaches for players.

Orisa received a rework for Overwatch 2 and became a lethal pick thanks to her high survivability and crowd control. She has since been nerfed, but before that, Orisa was considered overpowered due to changes that made her kit broken. Joining the ranks of Overwatch 2 late last year was Mauga, a new hero whose playstyle focuses on aggression. It didn't take long for the Samoan tank to also be labeled as broken for reasons such as his life steal, damage, and ultimate. Mauga and Orisa are considered good picks for Overwatch 2 players wanting to master the tank role, but the duo are due for changes soon.

Illari is in trouble once again, as the discovery of a new Overwatch 2 bug makes the developers temporarily disable the support hero.

Overwatch 2 lead hero designer Alec Dawson confirmed that more changes to Mauga and Orisa are on the way. Dawson said on his Twitter that one of the development team's thoughts is to transfer more of Mauga's power to award aggression. For Orisa, the dev revealed that she's due to a look "in terms of where the power budget" is allocated. The Numbani protector has already begun to receive changes in this direction with the removal of falloff damage in the most recent patch. Mauga, Overwatch 2's biggest controversy in Season 8, got harsh nerfs to curb his firepower.

As well as confirming additional adjustments for Mauga and Orisa, Alec Dawson commented on the current state of the Overwatch 2 meta following the release of patch 2.8.1. The dev considers the update "a healthy patch overall," which improved Orisa's win rate, which was previously below 40%. He revealed that Ramattra has been performing well at all ranks and that all the tanks are within the devs' performance expectations. Mauga is still viable in most ranks, but has fallen behind in the higher ones as players started dealing with him better. Overwatch 2 has been considering revamping Wrecking Ball and Cassidy for some time, and Dawson confirmed that the two heroes should undergo more complex changes, but didn't give any additional details. Alec Dawson concluded his thoughts by revealing that Overwatch 2 Season 2 will see "big shakeups," and more on that is coming soon.

Overwatch 2 Season 9 is shaping up to be a standout for both the unannounced changes and the confirmed ones. Overwatch 2 revealed a big change for Season 9 that will give Damage and Tank heroes a passive self-healing ability. Mauga and Orisa players are waiting to find out what the future holds for their heroes, and what their place in the Overwatch 2 meta will be like.
