Summary

  • Overwatch 2 will introduce Damage hero Freja in Season 16.
  • Freja will have a trial at some point during Overwatch 2 Season 15.
  • Support hero Aqua is set to join Overwatch 2 in Season 18 as a "water wielder."

Blizzard has revealed the next two heroes coming to Overwatch 2 later in 2025: Damage hero Freja and Support hero Aqua. Overwatch 2 has settled into a pattern of releasing three new heroes a year. New heroes are typically added in even-numbered seasons. Damage heroes are added first, Support heroes are added in the middle of the year, and the year is capped off with the introduction of a new Tank hero.

Overwatch 2 stuck to this pattern with its 2024 content, adding Damage hero Venture in Season 10, Support hero Juno in Season 12, and Tank hero Hazard in Season 14. Season 15 is next up for Overwatch 2, and while it won't see the addition of a new hero, it will include a limited-time trial for the new character that's coming in Season 16.

Overwatch 2 Season 16 will see the debut of Freja, the "wind dasher" hero. Hailing from Denmark, Freja was once a Search & Rescue Operative for the Overwatch team, but she has since become a bounty hunter. Freja is equipped with a rapid-fire crossbow that can also fire explosive bolts when aiming down sights. Freja can use her cape for extra air time and a jump boost, plus she can quick dash to automatically reload her explosive bolt. On top of all that, Freja has a powerful bola that she can use to tie up any enemies unlucky enough to be caught in her crosshairs. Blizzard has described Freja, Hero 43, as one of the highest-skill characters in the game, so she should make for a fun challenge for Damage players. Freja will be playable on a trial basis during Overwatch 2 Season 15 before making her debut in Season 16.

Overwatch 2 Hero 43 and 44

  • Freja - Damage hero coming in Season 16
  • Aqua - Support hero coming in Season 18

Freja isn't the only new hero Blizzard announced as part of the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event. The company also gave fans a brief look at Aqua. All we know about Aqua so far is that he is chinese, he's a "water wielder," and he will be a Support hero that's added to the game in Season 18. Overwatch 2 fans can expect more substantial information on Hero 44 in the months ahead.

Overwatch 2 may not be adding new heroes at the same rate as Marvel Rivals, but the ones it is adding are plenty exciting. Freja looks like she will be a great addition to Overwatch 2's lineup of Damage heroes, and it will be exciting to see how she plays when her trial goes live later in Season 15.
