While playing as Reaper, one Overwatch 2 gamer devised a clever strategy that caught an enemy team by surprise. Reaper is a hero known for causing chaos in an enemy team’s backline, and this clip shared by the player showed that there are multiple ways of doing this in Overwatch 2.
The phrase “Die! Die! Die!” Has become instantly recognizable to many Overwatch 2 fans over the years. This is because when these words are heard, it often means players are about to be eliminated by Reaper’s Death Blossom, his Ultimate ability which damages all nearby enemies. While this ability can be countered by a well-coordinated team, it still needs to be respected by players. Recently, one Reaper player used this to their advantage during a game.
In a post on Reddit, a user known as QAnnihilateQ64 shared a new strategy they had come up with while playing as Reaper. They provided a video showcasing the method during a game on the Numbani map. This intriguing strategy involved Reaper using Wraith Form to turn invulnerable and move toward the enemy team, suggesting he was about to use his devastating Death Blossom. However, QAnnihilateQ64 revealed this was only bait meant to draw out the opposing Lucio’s Sound Barrier. Once Reaper had successfully done this, he retreated, giving him the opportunity to use Death Blossom at another time when the enemy did not have one of its Ultimate abilities to counter. This new tactic the Reddit user described as “rude” caught the attention of a wide swath of Overwatch 2 players on the subreddit. With more than 7.3K upvotes in only a couple of days, many players expressed interest in trying this clever bait strategy out for themselves. However, a number of users pointed out that it could be challenging to resist the urge to use the Ultimate ability while in the middle of the enemy team. In addition, this clip from QAnnihilateQ64 started a discussion in the comments about which character had the most predictable Ultimate. While some users thought it was Reaper, others pointed out that Reinhardt’s Earthshatter and D.Va’s Self-Destruct were also relatively easy to read.
As this Reaper trick evidences, there are many unconventional ways for players to disrupt a match and help turn the outcome in their favor. It will be interesting to see if more players become aware of this Reaper tactic and begin to adjust to it. However, until that happens, this strategy might be worth a try for those who main Reaper in Overwatch 2.
Overwatch 2 is available on PC, PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
