Overwatch 2 just showed off a bunch of in-game footage from the Throne of Anubis, the new Clash map coming in Season 12. This map will be one of two battlefields available in Clash once it is added to the core rotation of Overwatch 2 game modes with the launch of Season 12 on August 20.

Blizzard recently revealed the trailer for Overwatch 2 Season 12, New Frontiers. This update adds tons of new stuff to the FPS, least of all the official launch of the Clash game mode, which features a series of capture points that must be claimed on a linear, mirrored map. When it was first available for testing, Clash only had one map: Hanaoka, a revamped version of the Hanamura map from the original Overwatch.

Overwatch 2 Reveals Mythic Reaper and Battle Pass Legendary Skins for Season 12

Blizzard reveals an incredible Mythic Reaper skin and the Battle Pass skins players can unlock in Season 12.

However, now that Clash is officially coming to the game, Overwatch 2 has confirmed that Hanaoka isn’t the only map in the new game mode. The Throne of Anubis will be one of the two maps for Clash once it arrives in Season 12. Though this new map was revealed in the trailer, a recent video shared on the official Overwatch 2 Twitter gave players a digital tour of the battlefield. Heroes must fight through an outdoor city, ancient Egyptian ruins, and even down into the god program Anubis’ innermost sanctum.

New Overwatch 2 Clash Map – Throne of Anubis

The Throne of Anubis is a revamped version of the Temple of Anubis, much like Hanaoka is to Hanamura. Both of the originals were old Overwatch Assault maps included in the game’s initial release. The Temple of Anubis was actually the first map ever developed for the game, and in the lore, it is the place where the Omnic Crisis first began. As Clash is an evolution of Assault – a game mode that was removed from the core rotation in Overwatch 2 – it is fitting that both of these iconic maps have been remade for the new game mode.

Interestingly enough, this isn’t the first time players have seen the Throne of Anubis. Overwatch 2 teased this map back in Season 10 alongside the reveal of Venture, its last new hero. Two seasons later, the Throne of Anubis is finally coming to Overwatch 2.

Fans are excited to give this new map a try. Many players enjoyed Clash when they had the chance to test it out in April, and are glad there will be multiple maps for the game mode. The Throne of Anubis itself features a wide variety of terrain, and is both visually stunning and steeped in the lore of Overwatch. Fans won’t have to wait long to battle on this map themselves, as it will be available on August 20 with the launch of Season 12.
