Flashpoint is a game mode Overwatch 2 introduced during Season 6 where fans must capture three points across a massive battlefield before their opponents do. Currently, the game mode has two maps, New Junk City and Suravasa, both of which arrived with Flashpoint's launch back in August 2023.
Overwatch 2 Director Teases Big Future Plans for the Game
As players check out Season 16, Overwatch 2's director talks about the game's future, teasing potentially big plans beyond Stadium.
However, Overwatch 2 has officially confirmed a third map will be joining this rotation during the next update. Recently, game director Aaron Keller took to Twitter to clear up some confusion about new maps coming to Overwatch 2’s Stadium game mode. OW2 gamer Ska’Vorah then asked Keller if there would be any maps for Quick Play and Competitive Play, to which he confirmed Season 17 would be getting a new Flashpoint map for the first time in almost two years since the mode launched.
New Flashpoint Map in Overwatch 2 Season 17
Ostensibly, this Flashpoint map is going to be Aatlis. Located in Morocco and seen in an airport poster on Numbani, Aatlis was teased in the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event, and also appeared on the companion roadmap shared along with it. Season 17 arrives on June 24, so players will likely get to see more footage of the Aatlis map soon, and be able to explore it in person in less than two months.
This new map isn’t the only change coming to Flashpoint in Season 17. Keller previously confirmed major updates to New Junk City and Suravasa were in development as well, and the Overwatch 2 roadmap currently also lists them as features for Season 17. What’s more, the Map Voting system is also planned for the same update, so fans can look forward to learning how this feature works soon.
Outside Flashpoint, players can expect tons of other maps in the near future. For Stadium, Esperanca and Samoa arrive in Season 17, Route 66, London, and two maps for the new Payload Race game mode in Season 18, and a map in China after that. What’s more, Overwatch 2 also confirmed Atlantic Arcology and Tokyo as maps for Season 19 and beyond. Needless to say, Overwatch 2 fans will have no shortage of both brand-new and revamped locations to battle across in several different game modes throughout the year.
