Overwatch 2 is gearing up to release Season 19, titled “Haunted Masquerade,” on October 14. This exciting season includes a new Halloween Terror game mode that gives the season its name, in which heroes don masks of other characters to gain bonuses based on their costumes. Tons of new skins are coming in this Overwatch 2 season as well, including spooktacular character costumes, and two Mythic hero skins: Divine Druid Lifeweaver at launch, and Cyber Fuel Junkrat during midseason.
However, these new Mythic skins in Overwatch 2 have found some players wanting. While the Lifeweaver skin looks stellar, and Cyber Fuel Junkrat is bound to be amazing, Overwatch 2 had previously made some references to Lucio shortly before the Season 19 reveal, which many took as a hint that he might be the recipient of the next Mythic. Unfortunately, fans of Future Earth’s resident DJ have been left disappointed once again – and it may be many months before they might get another Mythic skin.
Overwatch 2 Hero 45 May Dethrone Doomfist
If a recent Overwatch 2 leak proves true, Doomfist fans could be in for a dark time, as Hero 45 could be replacing him in more ways than one.
Overwatch 2 Should Have Given Lucio a Mythic Skin in Season 19
The Struggle of One Of Overwatch 2’s Most Neglected Heroes
On October 7, Blizzard shared a hilarious video on Twitter to announce the start of its Overwatch 2 Season 18 Competitive Drives, featuring an improvised song about Lucio, pushing payloads, and ranking up in Competitive. Blizzard even went so far as to tag the popular content creator FroggerOW, famous for being the definitive Lucio main in the community. Considering Season 19 was only a week away at the time, many were hoping this was a sign that Lucio might be the lucky recipient of the next Mythic skin.
Unfortunately, it was not to be. The very next day, Divine Druid Lifeweaver was revealed as the launch Mythic skin in Overwatch 2 Season 19, much to the dismay of Lucio players. FroggerOW himself was a good sport about it, especially considering how good the skin looks, and instead crossed his fingers for a Lucio Mythic in a future season. Even so, fans of the support hero were let down that Lucio had once again been ignored in favor of others.
While Lucio is not as neglected as heroes like Baptiste or Zarya when it comes to skins in Overwatch 2, he is far from the most favored, with a total of 18 Epic or Legendary Battle Pass, Shop, or event skins released since the sequel’s launch. In comparison, Kiriko, the support hero introduced with the release of Overwatch 2, has a whopping 31, including her Mythic Amaterasu Kiriko from Season 3, and the Vampire and Folklore Kiriko skins coming in Season 20. Kiriko has also gotten at least one skin every season except for Season 4, while Lucio skipped Seasons 1, 6, 10, 17, and seemingly 19. To make matters worse, six of Kiriko's skins are from Overwatch 2 collaboration events, while Lucio has yet to appear in one, and many more of Lucio's skins are Epic quality or recolors, with most of Kiriko's skins being unique Legendaries.
Lucio was one of the 21 heroes released with the launch of Overwatch 1. As such, he technically has more skins, especially when counting Rare, release, and Competitive Overwatch League cosmetics, with Lucio's 133 compared to Kiriko’s 82.

Unfortunately, Lucio fans are not likely to get a new Mythic skin soon. Overwatch 2 usually follows a pattern where every three seasons, it tries to release a damage, support, and tank Mythic in no particular order, though it broke this trend once in Season 12 with Anubis Reaper. With a support Mythic skin in Season 19, as well as a new three-season cycle, there probably won’t be a support Mythic until at least Season 21 or 22 next year in Overwatch 2, so Lucio mains could have to wait for several months before having another chance at a Mythic skin.
Mythic Junkrat May Give Lucio a Bit of Hope in Overwatch 2
That being said, Lucio fans might have received a sliver of hope from an unexpected place: Junkrat. For the first time in history, Overwatch 2 is releasing two Mythic hero skins in one season, with Cyber Fuel Junkrat expected to arrive in about a month during the mid-Season 19 update. It remains to be seen if this is a one-time surprise, a new precedent, or a treat that Blizzard will occasionally delight players with, but one thing is for certain: Mythic Prisms in Overwatch 2 are going to be in high demand this season.
Regardless, this could be great news for Lucio fans. No matter what Overwatch 2 plans to do with future Mythic skin releases, Cyber Fuel Junkrat technically brings them one step closer to an eventual, hopeful Mythic Lucio skin by accelerating the Mythic cycle, and reducing the number of heroes in the queue ahead of the audio medic. It may be months or even years before Lucio gets a Mythic, but with Overwatch 2 teasing surprises for players left and right, one can never know for sure what is in store for them until Blizzard pulls back the next update, event, or season.
