Overwatch 2 recently teased a brand-new Stadium map and feature for high-ranked players coming to the game in Season 20. Though there is still about a month left in Overwatch 2 Season 19, the game's next season is already looking to be packed full of exciting content.
Aaron Keller, game director of Overwatch 2, recently shared a new blog post ahead of the mid-Season 19 update on November 11. In the newsletter, he mostly focused on the importance of fan feedback, including the events that led to Overwatch 2 reverting Competitive Stadium to the best-of-seven format.
As a Mercy Main, I’m Already Mourning Overwatch 2’s Next Midseason Patch
The midseason update for Overwatch 2’s nineteenth Season is expected to arrive soon, but as a Mercy player, I’m struggling to get hyped.
Confirmed Features for Overwatch 2 Season 20
- New feature for high-skill players on the leaderboard
- New Stadium map set in a lore specific location not used in other maps
- Hero 45
However, near the end of the blog, Keller teased some of the content coming not only in the midseason update, but Season 20. A brand-new feature designed for highly-skilled gamers in response to suggestions given directly by them is coming, though few specifics are known about what this could be right now. Additionally, a map based on a new location that has been mentioned in the lore recently will be coming to the Stadium game mode.
While it is too early to say exactly where this new map will be located, fans have speculated it could be in Argentina, China, or even Mars, all of which have appeared in recent lore drops. At the very least, this map is likely not Atlantic Arcology or Neo Tokyo, as they were revealed during the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event as maps for normal game formats.
Keller also teased some new information about the mid-Season 19 update. Beyond the Narrative Viewer and Mythic Cyber Fuel Junkrat in the Overwatch 2 update, the game director confirmed that balance adjustments specifically targeting the 6v6 format would be a part of the patch as well. The classic Overwatch format has been a big hit since its reintroduction, with about 20% of all daily players enjoying the game mode. This balance patch will serve to fix some of the issues that have appeared in this larger format.
Of course, perhaps the most exciting part of Season 20 is the new hero. The She-Wolf gladiator character has been teased by Overwatch 2 a great deal over the last several months, and her reveal is coming soon. Hero 45’s trial period is set to begin some time shortly after the mid-Season 19 update, meaning fans can expect to see her backstory, kit, and trial period at some point between now and her debut with Season 20 on December 9.
