  • Overwatch 2 fans are frustrated with Sombra's current power, particularly in regard to her Stealth.
  • As such, one player made a Halo-inspired suggestion that proposes adding a shimmer effect to Sombra's Stealth ability to make her a bit easier to spot.

An Overwatch 2 fan has a clever Halo-inspired suggestion to nerf Sombra's Stealth ability. Overwatch 2 fans have been voicing their displeasure with how powerful Sombra is, so this change to her stealth could be exactly what the game needs.

Sombra is an Overwatch 2 hero that was carried forward from the original title like D.Va, Mercy, and Torbjorn. Because the first title offered a 6v6 dynamic that was changed to 5v5 in the sequel, she underwent a few changes in Overwatch 2. Still, the Damage hero remains a powerful force on the battlefield, widely recognized as this season's most overpowered character. Although Blizzard has teased changes to her and Tank heroes for the mid-season update, it's unclear how her abilities will be adjusted. One gamer has a Halo-inspired idea of changing Sombra's cloaking skill to make it more obvious to unsuspecting players.

Reddit user Urethra-Shredder recently shared two images from the Halo series, one highlighting a cloaked Covenant alien, and the other showing how a Spartan looks with stealth. Like some other games, these characters are mostly invisible, but there's a distortion effect of the world around them that's visible to their opponents. This strange effect allows players with a keen eye to observe their movements and fight back. Unlike Halo's camouflage, when Overwatch 2's Sombra enters her Stealth mode she goes completely invisible, which only changes when she's detected. This Reddit user has suggested applying a distortion effect to Sombra's Stealth similar to the cloaking in Halo to make the hero less intimidating to play against.

Halo's Shimmer Could Be the Change Overwatch 2’s Sombra Needs

The Halo series has had characters capable of cloaking since the beginning, primarily in the form of Covenant aliens. Despite the distorted visuals created by the invisible Halo characters, they can still go undetected in many cases. Sombra's Stealth ability isn't the only problem Overwatch 2 players have with the character, as her SMG is also able to shred through health points rapidly. Beyond that, the damage hero can hack enemies to remove most of their abilities from their toolkit to defend themselves. Still, because she can hack opponents while she's invisible, the Stealth ability may be the central problem with the character.

As Blizzard continues to update Overwatch 2, Sombra may see a change to her Stealth or other abilities to make her less dominant. Despite Sombra being the current problematic hero, changes can cause balancing problems, making different characters too powerful in exchange. As such, it will be interesting to see how Blizzard approaches potential Sombra changes.
