  • This collaboration marks a significant step for Overwatch 2, expanding its partnerships beyond Blizzard games.
  • The event will offer more than just skins, with possible bundles and other themed cosmetics.

Overwatch 2 is getting a crossover with Capcom's Street Fighter 6, which will bring eight character-themed skins and other cosmetics to Blizzard's team shooter on May 20. This is a big step for Overwatch 2, which has previously offered collaborations but never with a non-Blizzard game. It also opens up Overwatch 2 to other possible future partnerships.

With its release in 2022, Overwatch 2 reimagined Blizzard's popular team-based shooter with a free-to-play model. While its core gameplay builds on the hero shooter formula established by the original Overwatch, including familiar characters, Blizzard has expanded its perspective to include collaborations. Similarly to other live-service games, like Fortnite's impressive Marvel crossovers, Blizzard has embraced other media properties.

Overwatch 2 Reveals Patch Notes for May 8 Update

A new Overwatch 2 update is live for all players, and Blizzard shares the patch notes detailing what changes have been made to the game.

Confirmed by Blizzard and Capcom at EVO Japan 2025, a game tournament that has featured Street Fighter 6 for several years, the Overwatch 2 x Street Fighter 6 event begins May 20. This crossover will feature eight colorful new hero skins based on Street Fighter 6 characters: Hanzo as Ryu, Juno as Chun-Li, Kiriko as Juri, Widowmaker as Cammy, Zenyatta as Dhalsim, Soldier: 76 as Guile, Winston as Blanka, and Sigma as M. Bison.

Overwatch 2 x Street Fighter 6 Collab Brings a New Era

In addition to the skins, the event is expected to include other themed cosmetics such as sprays and emotes. According to Blizzard, there will not only be in-game purchases but also random items. Pricing hasn't been revealed, but considering previous collab skins in Overwatch 2, the prices are likely to land at around 1,800 to 2,000 Coins for skins and 2,500 for bundles. There might also be bigger mega bundles for better value, but at a higher cost.

The inclusion of Street Fighter characters might bring a shift in Blizzard's approach to collaborations. Overwatch 2 has had several collaborations with Blizzard's own games, like World of Warcraft and Diablo, but external opportunities have been more limited to non-game media. High-profile crossovers could potentially boost Overwatch 2's reach, which is important at a time when the hero shooter game is facing tough competition, spearheaded by Marvel Rivals.

On the other hand, Street Fighter is no stranger to appearing in other games. The fighting game franchise has been part of various crossovers, including one that brought several skin packs to Fortnite. Although some are questioning the choices, with everyone having their favorite characters, gamers have reacted well. Fans are already considering other potentially overlapping characters from the two franchises, whether it would be Sombra dressing up as Laura or Roadhog getting a Birdie makeover.
