Summary

  • Overwatch 2's Workshop offers a unique game mode with a killer cow chasing players in a fun custom experience.
  • The Workshop tool allows players to create and enjoy custom game modes, offering a break from typical gameplay.
  • While the Workshop can lead to fun creations like Cow FFA, it has also caused issues in the past, but remains a source of entertainment.

A new Overwatch 2 Workshop game mode sees players get chased around by a horrific killer cow. Those looking for a different kind of Overwatch 2 experience can try out the mode from the game's well-received custom modding tool.

The Workshop tool has been around since the original Overwatch's heyday, introduced back in April 2019. It's carried over to the sequel, and players' creativity has since resulted in a lot of really fun custom Overwatch 2 game modes worth checking out if one has tired of the typical ranked or casual experience.

In this custom Overwatch 2 mode called Cow FFA, a player is trapped in a big empty room with a Wrecking Ball modded to look like a wireframe of a gigantic cow. The cow, which looks to be really overpowered, is simply tasked with running around the room and going after the player. Redditor wadefatman on r/Overwatch posted their game footage in which they kept dying to the cow, suggesting that it's really hard to kill. For those who want to try it themselves, the game mode can be accessed on Workshop with the code N666MZ.

Overwatch's Workshop Is a Source of Broken Fun

Those who haven't tried out Overwatch 2's Workshop are in for a lot of fun. The variety ranges from assigning different animations to completely changing the abilities of Overwatch heroes, allowing for near-limitless possibilities. The ability for players to make wacky creations and custom game modes has been a staple feature in Blizzard games dating back to the days of the original Warcraft and StarCraft, which resulted in unusual experiences – and even led to the rise of DOTA and the wildly successful MOBA genre.

However, while zany game experiences like Cow FFA can be found all over Overwatch 2's Workshop, it also can be a source of headaches for both other players and the dev team at Blizzard. There was an instance back in the original Overwatch where cheaters could bring in the functionality of custom Workshop scripts into ranked play, where they would obviously be unfair and prohibited. Fortunately, that no longer seems to be a major problem in today's iteration of the Overwatch Workshop.

Meanwhile, the Overwatch 2 environment remains healthy. Blizzard has just released a new Overwatch 2 update that makes some balance changes, including nerfs to Roadhogg and Cassidy, as well as a few improvements to a number of different heroes. Meanwhile, the metagame is constantly changing, especially with the impending arrival of the new Space Ranger character in Season 12.
