While revealing Wuyang, the new hero coming in Overwatch 2 Season 18, Blizzard might have also teased another hero in the form of his sister, Anran. Overwatch 2 only just recently revealed Wuyang, but his spitfire older sister was given a unique set of powers and weapons that would make her a perfect fit for the hero shooter sometime in the future.
During the Overwatch 2 Spotlight event earlier this year, Blizzard revealed Wuyang, the aquatic support hero then known only by his codename, Aqua. Shortly before his trial period on August 14, Blizzard shared the backstory and ability kit for this Overwatch 2 hero, giving players a good feel for how the new character plays and acts.
August 26 is Going to Be a Big Day for Overwatch 2 Fans
Fans of Blizzard's Overwatch 2 will want to make sure that they circle this coming Tuesday, August 26 on their calendars.
Wuyang’s Fire-Bending Sister Anran in Overwatch 2
However, Blizzard paved the way for more Overwatch 2 heroes than just Wuyang in the process. Ahead of the release of Overwatch 2 Season 18, Blizzard revealed a hero trailer for Wuyang called “Elemental Kin.” The animated short featured Wuyang receiving an invitation to join Overwatch, which leads to a sparring match with his flame-wielding older sister, Anran. Voiced by Overwatch 2 content creator Fareeha, Anran is the opposite of his water-bending brother, spreading fire across the battlefield while wielding twin fans. Between her unique fighting style and weapon, and the fact that she is also invited to join Overwatch along with her brother, many players wonder if Blizzard is planning to eventually add her to the game.
This wasn’t the first place Anran had appeared. She also played a prominent role in the backstory comic, “Against the Tide,” which established the Wuxing University, a school that is divided into five colleges with unique curricula, each inspired by the Five Phases: Fire, Water, Metal, Wood, and Earth. As a member of the martial arts and strategy-focused Fire College, Anran could be a perfect fit for Overwatch 2.
It is important to note that there has been no official confirmation that Anran will ever come to Overwatch 2. Though the developers have expressed interest in creating a fire hero in the past, there is no guarantee they were ever referring to this prospective hero. For the time being, Anran will be joining D.va's MEKA Squad, Kiriko's Yokai, Hazard’s Phreaks, and Emre Sarioglu in the Overwatch 2 waiting room.
Regardless, Anran is almost certainly not coming this year anyway. Wuyang arrives on August 26, and while they haven’t been formally revealed, Overwatch 2 has hinted that Hero 45 will be a melee gladiator hero known as the “Wolf of Retribution.” Fans can expect to learn more about this mysterious figure later this year, ahead of Season 20, likely launching in late December.
