With Overwatch being Blizzard Entertainment's fastest growing franchise to date, there's no doubt that when many contemporary gaming fans think about the publisher and developer, their minds invariably go to the team-based shooter. Of course, the company is well-known for many other titles as well, particularly its StarCraft series, which is currently celebrating its 20th anniversary by adding new content across Blizzard's other properties, with the aforementioned shooter's sniper Widowmaker is getting a new skin based on a character from the sci-fi real-time strategy franchise.

As seen in the screenshot below taken from a Twitch livestream celebrating StarCraft's 20th anniversary, Overwatch fans will be able to get their hands on a Widowmaker skin designed after StarCraft's psychic terran female known as Sarah Louise Kerrigan. According to a post on the official StarCraft website, Overwatch players who log in between March 6 and April 3 will receive the Sarah Kerrigan Ghost skin for Widowmaker.

For the uninitiated, the new skin coming to Overwatch for Widowmaker is based on Kerrigan before she transformed into the Queen of Blades, which is essentially the Zerg Queen and leader of the Swarm in StarCraft. While the cosmetic for Overwatch's archetypal sniper is decidedly nifty and a great nod to Blizzard's extremely popular RTS series, some fans might be quick to note that it looks similar to the Widowmaker's November "Nova" Terra skin, which is a ranged assassin character from the StarCraft universe.

All things considered, adding a Kerrigan skin for Widowmaker in Overwatch is a solid way for Blizzard to honor its RTS franchise within the team-based shooter as a celebration of the two decades running for StarCraft, especially since it's a freebie. Should there be some Overwatch fans out there who may be underwhelmed by the offering, though, the studio at least has Brigitte on the way as a fresh face for players of the game to master.

Overwatch is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
