Farming has always been a staple of video games, from immersion-seeking entries such as the Farming Simulator series, or to more casual franchises such as Animal Crossing and Stardew Valley. Even games of other genres sometimes develop a farming element within them, such as Final Fantasy XIV.

One of the latest video games to include farming is Palia by Singularity 6. Featuring numerous crops, fertilizers to increase the quality of a product, and tools to undertake the farming process, Palia doesn’t showcase an intensively detailed farming experience, but it is involving nonetheless. With Palia presenting an array of food items, such as the Fish Stew, it can be tempting to turn some of the crops into materials for use with cooking. However, while there are other ways to earn Gold Coins, such as fishing, crops can be sold for a large amount of money.

Most players use 12 days as a baseline for a harvest cycle. Many crops' profits will be calculated over 12 days, even if they have a shorter harvest time.

Carrots are the best min-max crop to grow in the early stages of Palia. As each harvest will give two Carrots, these crops will equal 184 Gold Coins over 12 days, or 272 Gold Coins if Star-Quality, as they can be picked four times in this duration. Other early-game crops, such as Onions, or Cotton (which can be used to craft Fabric), aren't as good, earning 180 Gold Coins over 12 days.

Tomatoes are the only crop that equal 184 Gold Coins. However, they are more expensive to buy, costing 80 Gold Coins compared Carrots' price at 15. It's this comparison with Tomatoes that demonstrate Carrots' min-max position. There won't be a massive drop-off in expenses, as Tomatoes can be re-harvested, yet Carrots must be bought again after each picking. Between the two, players will only save 20 Gold Coins. Carrots are technically superior, but it won't matter much if Tomatoes are chosen instead.

Wheat sees an upgraded selling price compared to Carrots, not by a huge amount, but one that is worthwhile regardless. Over 12 days, players will see a sweet profit margin of 198 Gold Coins for regular quality, and 294 Gold Coins for Star-Quality. This is due to Wheat also giving two crops per harvest.

Wheat will gift the Harvest Boost buff to surrounding crops, increasing the amount of crops the player will receive when it is time for a harvest.

The last crop before prices start getting astronomical, Rice has lower base selling prices than Wheat. However, it is more valuable in the long term since it can be harvested every 3 days.

Across a 12-day time period, Rice will give 216 Gold Coins normally, and 320 Gold Coins for Star-Quality. On top of this, Rice will grant 2 crops per harvest. Additionally, likw Wheat, Rice possesses the Harvest Boost buff, allowing for an increase in the harvest yield of other crops.

The cost of 170 Gold Coins may look like a warning for players to steer clear of Spicy Peppers. However, these crops will net a profit of 576 Gold Coins over 12 days, and S tar-Quality will give a whopping 864 Gold Coins. This is due to Spicy Peppers granting 6 crops per harvest.

While these take 6 days to cultivate, the player can harvest them every third day after that, for a total of 15 days overall. Spicy Peppers will also increase the quality of other crops thanks to its Quality Boost buff.

While Spicy Peppers yield a higher selling price, they cost 170 Gold Coins to buy. Blueberries, on the other hand, require Gardening Medals. This can be a negative, but players will gain the full 39, or 58 if Star-Quality, Gold Coins per harvest instead of spending some of their money buying the seeds.

Completing Weekly Skill Challenges in Palia will reward players with valuable Skill Medals that can be used to purchase exclusive items.

Blueberries will give 6 berries per harvest, allowing for a total of 234 Gold Coins. This makes it a great crop for money, similar to its counterpart in Stardew Valley. Since Blueberries can be harvested every 3 days after the first period of 9 days, a grand amount of 468 Gold Coins, or 696 Gold Coins when Star-Quality, will be up for grabs every 12 days. Additionally, Blueberries grant the Growth Boost buff, speeding up the process it takes for other crops to yield a harvest. However, Blueberries will require a 2x2 plot to grow.

Harvest Time

By far the most profitable crop in terms of its base price, Apples are the most superior crop to grow, and a great way of making money. Since Apples take the longest to grow, basing the total collected price over a course of 12 days will only net the player with one harvest.

However, this one harvest is extremely valuable. The kicker is, one harvest will grant the player 16 crops, making a profit of 1024 Gold Coins regularly and 1538 Gold Coins for Star-Quality. An inventory upgrade might be important if carrying all these crops is too much.

Additionally, Apples will stay around for another 18 days, and can be harvested every 6 days instead of 12 days. They also grant the Growth Boost buff like Blueberries, quickening the time it takes for other crops to mature. The only real downsides are that Apples require level 10 in Gardening, are purchased with Gardening Medals, and need a 3x3 plot to grow in. As a bonus, out of the crops listed here, Apples are the most liked by the game's romanceable characters.
