Palworld builds upon the familiar elements of creature-collecting games such as Pokemon, Dragon Quest Monsters, Shin Megami Tensei, and others, adding its own flair and a series of unique mechanics to the experience. While the game is prominently compared to Pokemon, there is a specific gameplay feature in Palworld that we’ll likely never see in a Pokemon game. In Palworld, players can collect Pal Souls, — that’s right, their souls — for use in enhancing other Pals.
There are three types of Pal Souls in Palworld:
Small Pal Souls,
Medium Pal Souls, and
Large Pal Souls. Unsurprisingly, the larger the Soul, the more challenging it is to obtain. Here are the best methods for farming each type of Pal Soul in Palworld, offering specific strategies and techniques you can use to ensure a steady supply of this resource.
How and Where to Farm Pal Souls in Palworld
Pal Souls are necessary for enhancing Pals at a Statue of Power to improve their stats. There are a handful of methods for obtaining Pal Souls in Palworld. Players can find Pal Souls by defeating, capturing, or butchering Pals, by finding them on the ground (in the case of Small Pal Souls) or looting chests, and by defeating dungeon bosses. However, the efficiency of each of these methods depends on the type of Pal Soul you are farming. Below, we’ve provided the best way to farm each type of Pal Soul in Palworld.
When farming Pal Souls, especially Medium Pal Souls and Large Pal Souls, it is recommended to have a fast ground or flying mount. Be sure to check out our guide to finding and catching the fastest flying mounts in Palworld.
Best Ways to Farm Small Pal Souls in Palworld
Unsurprisingly, Small Pal Souls are the easiest type of Pal Soul to obtain. You will always need to use Small Pal Souls for empowering your Pals, so they will always be useful. Small Pal Souls can be found on the ground in Level 1 – Level 30 regions, so it isn’t very difficult to obtain a suitable quantity through regular gameplay. Players can just run around and collect the Small Pal Souls, and open any chests they come across. You'll also end up with a good supply of Small Pal Souls from catching and defeating low level Pals.
It is possible to farm Small Pal Souls through defeating or butchering Pals. If you prefer to take this route, you will want to focus on Nox. This nocturnal Pal has a 40% chance to drop Small Pal Souls, the highest of any Pal. You can hunt Nox only during the night, which may make farming more inconvenient. It’s also worth factoring in the time it takes to breed and hatch the Pal, then butcher each Nox versus simply running around low level zones.

Some Pals only spawn at night. Here's a list of all the night-exclusive Pals in Palworld, including their spawning locations and more.
Best Ways to Farm Medium Pal Souls in Palworld
Once you’re halfway through the process of enhancing a Pal, you will need to start using Medium Pal Souls to enhance it further. Unlike Small Pal Souls, you will not find Medium Pal Souls on the ground in Palpagos. Therefore, you will have to rely on other methods of obtaining these Pal Souls.
You will want to focus on finding and looting Golden Chests as your primary means of farming Medium Pal Souls in Palworld. Golden Chests can be found in Level 30 – Level 50 regions of Palpagos. When exploring these areas, you will also come across Purple Chests, but these chests will never contain Pal Souls. For efficient farming of Medium Pal Souls, it’s crucial to stop and collect only Golden Chests.
The best area to farm Medium Pal Souls from Golden Chests is the large desert biome in the top right corner of the map. This massive region features Level 40 – Level 50 Pals and is the best place to find Golden Chests. To farm Medium Pal Souls, head to the Deep Sand Dunes Fast Travel point, hop on your flying mount Pal, scour the area. It’s relatively easy to spot chests sitting on the sand.
Remember, only Golden Chests will contain Medium Pal Souls. Purple Chests cannot contain Pal Souls.
It’s worth noting that it when it comes to defeating or butchering Pals for Medium Souls, this can only be done with one specific Pal: Helzephyr. Helzephyr, another nocturnal Pal, is the only Pal that can drop Medium Pal Souls in Palworld. However, Helzephyr has only a 3% chance of dropping Medium Pal Souls. With odds this low, it’s not worth the trouble of defeating or butchering this Pal for Medium Pal Souls, especially considering the necessary time investment of hunting them in the wild, or breeding and butchering.
Palworld: How to Breed Pals
The breeding process in Palworld has many features that every player should know about. And here we'll show you how to breed Pals.
Best Ways to Farm Large Pal Souls in Palworld
Farming Large Pal Souls is where butchering Pals becomes the most reliable method. If you want to farm Large Pal Souls using this method, you will want to exclusively breed Anubis to butcher and receive Large Pal Souls.
This is because Anubis has a 100% drop rate of Large Pal Souls. He will also drop 3-5 Bones when butchered, which are a necessary material for crafting items, specifically Cement. Frostallion Noct is another reliable source of Large Pal Souls. This Pal is obtainable only through breeding Frostallion with Helzephyr.
As with base building and other activities in Palworld, it’s important to stay mindful of where you are located when butchering Pals. You don’t want to choose a location where the Souls may drop out of reach. Even worse, they could glitch or clip into scenery and become impossible to collect.
If butchering defenseless Pals isn’t your style, you can instead farm Large Pal Souls by collecting chests in the massive snow and ice biome in the top left corner of the map. This region features a handful of Fast Travel points, and the area surrounding the Pristine Snow Field Great Eagle Statue is the perfect place to start your treasure hunt. Golden Chests that can contain Large Pal Souls are scattered throughout this level 40+ snowy region. We recommend using one of Palworld's fast flying mount Pals to search for these chests.
