A monster-capturing and survival game hybrid such as Palworld must ensure that its environments feel alive so that players are compelled to continue playing. The addition of the Oil Rig Stronghold near Marsh Island has helped with that, as the structure's looming industrial presence stands out and invites players to take on its challenge. Because of how it manages to impact the world through its existence, it could inspire the game's developers to create more just like it.
Upon the release of Palworld's Sakurajima update, the game gained a lot of additional content that has benefited and improved its single-player aspect. One of those things is the Oil Rig, a large stronghold controlled by the Rayne Syndicate that greatly rewards those who manage to conquer it. This gives the faction more presence, as it shows players that the efforts of its members have an actual effect on the overworld. If the structure can do that much for one group, the game would benefit more if the others were to have something similar. The rest of the factions could have their own versions of the Oil Rig Stronghold that better suit their purposes, giving the developers something to consider regarding new content for Palworld.
Why Every Faction in Palworld Should Have Their Own Version of the Oil Rig Stronghold
Palworld's factions could stand to go back into the oven, as they have the potential to play bigger roles, but their current iteration makes them feel underwhelming. The one slight exception to this would be the Rayne Syndicate as, while it is still lacking in certain aspects, its Oil Rig Stronghold helps better establish the group as an actual threat that must be dealt with. Should the developers decide to boost the status of the other factions with a similar type of structure, then there are a few ways they can do so for each one:
- The Free Pal Alliance could have something like a safari zone where players can take on powerful Pals and the members who are seemingly trying to protect them.
- The Brothers of Eternal Pyre could erect a church dedicated to fire, making it hazardous for those who aren't resistant to flame-based attacks and weaponry.
- The Palpagos Island Defense Force could form a military headquarters, a place full of members that will use every man-made weapon available to stop trespassers.
- The Pal Genetic Research Unit could have created an underground laboratory where all their experiments take place, and it's being guarded by its members and the mutated Pals.
- The Moonflower Clan of Sakurajima could have a Japanese-inspired temple where the faction's elite stays to train future members, ensuring only the strongest are encountered by intruders.
These are only some examples, as there are many alternatives as to what structures would perfectly fit the purpose of a specific faction. If Pocketpair manages to figure them out and decides to add them in the future, then players of Palworld are likely to enjoy the added engagement the additions bring.
How the Factions of Palworld Could Benefit From Having Their Own Thematic Structures
All the factions of Palworld could use something that will help turn them into a more essential and compelling feature. The Rayne Syndicate has benefitted greatly from the Oil Rig Stronghold in terms of allowing it to stand out in the world, and the same could happen to the other groups if they were to have similar structures. Not only will it let factions play a bigger role in the overworld, but it also provides the opportunity to let players learn more about them. A future update could give each a cutscene that expounds on the existence and purpose of their structures, perhaps even adding an NPC that players can interact with to get more information. This could lead to even more interesting content, such as the story mode that many have been looking forward to for a while.
Palworld shouldn't beat around the bush with the next major update as it needs something that will help keep its current players and attract new ones. Adapting what made the Oil Rig Stronghold successful and putting it into the other factions is one addition that can do that, as it will do wonders for the game's growth. So long as Pocketpair sees the potential and decides to act on the opportunity, there is a good chance that players will be acquiring more content that will make their playthroughs more enjoyable.
