Developer Grinding Gear Games has disclosed major details from Path of Exile 2’s first major content update, Dawn of the Hunt, introducing a new class, five new Ascendancy classes, character system expansions, and improvements to Endgame content. Path of Exile 2’s upcoming update is scheduled to be released on April 4, 2025, and players can gain early access to the update by purchasing the Early Access Supporter Pack.
Path of Exile 2 entered early access in December 2024, and the full release is expected to launch sometime in May 2025 provided there are no delays. The Path of Exile franchise joins a host of games boasting the biggest skill trees, alongside Salt & Sanctuary, The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim, and Kingdoms Of Amalur: Reckoning, and the sequel’s story takes place approximately 20 years after the events of the first 2013 game.
Path of Exile 2's Endgame Design is Out of Tune With Its Gameplay
Path of Exile 2 can still improve its endgame experience significantly, especially in two key areas.
Grinding Gear Games announced Path of Exile 2’s Dawn of the Hunt details during a recent livestream hosted on Twitch, followed by a blog post on the Path of Exile 2 website, highlighting the wealth of new features coming to gameplay. Included in the patch will be the anticipated Raise Spectre skill, over 100 new Support Gems, over 100 new Unique Items, new encounters with the Azmerian Wisps, Rogue Exiles, and a new strongbox encounter with The Ogham’s Legacy. Dawn of the Hunt will also welcome new areas within seven Endgame maps, new Cleansed Maps, and a new Corrupted Essences mechanic.

One of the newly announced Path of Exile 2 Ascendancy classes was teased at the start of the month, and several fans rightly predicted it would be geared toward the Mercenary class. The Warrior, Mercenary, and Witch classes received the new The Smith of Kitava Ascendancy class, designed to elevate players’ smithing skills. One of the main takeaways from the update reveal, however, was the introduction of the new Huntress class, an Azmeri warrior proficient in both melee and ranged combat by way of her spear, and 20 accompanying skills.
Grinding Gear Games recently revealed Path of Exile 2’s most popular classes among players. Stormweaver and Invoker tied for first place, with the Infernalist coming in third place, and the Acolyte of Chayula is the least used of the bunch. Players are expressing their excitement towards the new Huntress class arriving in Dawn of the Hunt, and most were pleased to hear community feedback had been taken on board by the devs when crafting the upcoming update.
