Path of Exile 2 is a complex game with layers upon layers of mechanics stacked on top of each other, making it very difficult to keep track of everything that’s going on in the game. On top of that, some in-game descriptions for certain mechanics don’t really explain the underlying rules adequately, leading to some confusion when new players try to understand them.
One of these mechanics is Daze, a status effect with a tooltip that states it provides “various benefits,” with no mention of what these benefits are, what they do, and where players might look for them. This guide covers everything there is to know about Daze, and whether or not it’s worth using.
Path of Exile 2: How Does Deflect Work
In Path of Exile 2, Deflection is a defensive layer that can be quite confusing to understand, especially for newcomers to ARPG.
How Does Daze Work in Path of Exile 2
Dazed is a physical status effect in Path of Exile 2 that complements the Stun status effect, functioning mainly as a facilitator to help Stun enemies faster. It has the following in-game description:
Some skills and effects have a chance to apply Daze to enemies on Hit.
Daze lasts for 8 seconds, and a Dazed enemy will take 50% more Stun Buildup. There are also a number of Skills, Effects, and other mechanics which interact with Daze for various benefits.
The actual effect of Daze is simple: enemies take 50% more Stun Buildup. The rest of the description only alludes to the fact some skills, supports, and items in PoE 2 have special interactions with Dazed enemies that make this status effect more useful in niche circumstances.
For example, the skill Vaulting Impact has a 100% chance to apply Broken Stance to enemies who are Dazed, if the skill hits them. Similarly, the Dazzle Support Gem ensures that hits targeted at Dazed enemies are always guaranteed to hit, bypassing accuracy and Evasion checks.
How to Inflict Daze in Path of Exile 2
Unlike Stun, Daze is not a stat inherent to all physical attacks. To inflict it, you have to invest in Passives, Skills, Supports, or gear that gives you the stat “+X% Chance to Daze on Hit.” This modifier can be obtained from several Notables on skill tree, just use the search function on the passive tree to find them. Support Gems like Dazing Warcry also achieve a similar effect.
Similarly, certain variants of One-Handed Maces always have the stat “Dazes on Hit,” which basically means there is a 100% chance that every successful hit from this weapon will inflict Daze on an opponent.
Notably, the Unique quarterstaff Nazir’s Judgement also has the modifier “Dazes on Hit." This is the only quarterstaff that has this modifier.
Is Daze Worth Using in Path of Exile 2?
Unfortunately, Daze is one of the weaker status effects in Path of Exile 2. The primary purpose of Daze is to inflict Stun faster, but in most cases, an enemy is actually easier to Stun than they are to Daze, which means that by the time an enemy is finally Dazed, they will have already been Stunned at least once.
Since enemies gain increased resistance to Stun after being Stunned once, this makes Daze less effective than it otherwise should be. The longer a fight goes, the more valuable Daze becomes. However, as the goal of most builds in PoE 2 is to end the fight as soon as possible, building a character entirely around Daze rarely makes sense.
