Summary

  • Path of Exile 2's endgame needs improvements for the upcoming classes, weapons, skills, and Acts.
  • A crucial change would be adding Atlas Passive Skill Tree swapping for more efficient farming.
  • Implementing multiple Atlas Trees could enhance the player experience and make the endgame more enjoyable.

There are many changes that Path of Exile 2 will receive throughout 2025, though many of them have not been announced yet. Patch 0.1.1 took care of multiple bug fixes and quality-of-life additions, and GGG is hard at work for the next update, which will presumably happen sometime in the coming weeks. With the unfortunate casualty of Path of Exile 1 being put on the back burner for a while until Path of Exile 2 is in a better state, the possibilities for upcoming improvements are endless. However, there is one big change that would help the endgame immensely, and the game already has the perfect blueprint for it.

Path of Exile 2's endgame is in a much better state now than when the game first came out, but this is one of the title's parts that need the most work before more classes, weapons, skills, and even campaign Acts are added. This is because players may spend most of their in-game time in the endgame, which is typically reached between levels 62 and 67, and it's where all the action is. It's not as immediate to first unlock all Atlas Passive Skills when one first gets to the endgame, but this makes a huge impact on farming - and the game could use a "tree-swapping" feature.

Path of Exile 2 Should 'Steal' One Destiny 2 The Final Shape Idea

Path of Exile 2 and Destiny 2 are very different games, but the latter added an interesting feature the former could "copy" to great effect.

Path of Exile 2 Should Have Atlas Passive Skill Tree Swapping

Path of Exile 2's weapon-swapping mechanic was first one of the highlights before the game came out, as it seemed it would encourage players to spec into different builds based on the weapons they would use. In practice, this is rarely used, as it's far easier and more efficient to make one powerful build to tackle all content than to have two separate ones. Still, this feature and the way it works with the Passive Tree would make for an amazing quality-of-life addition if one could have two (or more) Atlas Passive Skill Trees to swap between.

The reason this would be beneficial is that there is no be-all, end-all pathing for the Atlas Passive Skill Tree that allows players to get the most out of farming anything. For example, farming Citadels and Crisis Fragments in Path of Exile 2 would require players to use Waystone Modifier Effect nodes over other more common ones that increase Rarity or Quantity of Items Found. The latter nodes are very useful in order to increase currency gains, for example, but they don't really have benefits for Crisis Fragments.

Likewise, the popular Atlas Passive Skill Tree node by the name of Local Knowledge that increases the chance of getting specific rewards and loot based on the biome of a given map doesn't have much of an effect when farming pinnacle content like the Arbiter of Ash. The Atlas Passive Skill Tree is an incredible source of extra loot and currency, but it can be frustrating to go back and forth respeccing it when tackling different content. Instead, Path of Exile 2's future patches could give players the opportunity to swap trees as one can currently swap weapons.

Why Multiple Path of Exile 2 Atlas Trees Would Be a Game-Changer

As such, having different Atlas Trees could allow players to get the most out of their experience with just the click of a button as opposed to having to manually respec the Tree when farming different types of content. Gold in Path of Exile 2 is easier to get in the endgame anyway, so it's not a matter of Gold costs to respect the Atlas Tree back and forth, but rather that it would simply make sense to have different Trees for different pieces of content. It remains to be seen whether GGG will make this change, but it would make the endgame even more enjoyable overall.
