Path of Exile 2 is enshrouded with mystery and darkness. Every quest you take raises more questions than answers and every new area you discover is more dangerous than before. On the other hand, when it comes to how souls-like the world and lore feel, the game immediately introduces you to the darkness and sorrow the people live through, especially when Renly asks you to slay the Devourer in Path of Exile 2.
The next mission you get is the Secrets in the Dark quest where you have to travel through three areas and investigate what happened to Count Geonor when he became mad.

Clearfell And The Grelwood In Path Of Exile 2
The Secrets in the Dark quest in Path of Exile 2 starts when you speak to Una in the Clearfell encampment. Una tells you that all this madness started when Count Geonor took his men and went to the Grelwood. She asks you to go there and search for clues, prompting the following objective:
- Travel through Clearfel to the Grelwood
That means to reach the Grelwood, you have to travel through Clearfel l. Luckily, Clearfell is right after the safe zone.
While maps are randomized in Path of Exile 2, Clearfell is always the same. When you enter the area, keep heading northeast, and you’ll eventually find the Grelwood entrance.
Once you make it inside Grelwood, your objective changes to:
- Search the Grelwood for evidence of the Count’s activities
It gets tricky to find your destination inside the Grelwood since maps constantly change in Path of Exile 2. However, no matter which side you start from, always head to the middle of the area to find the Tree of Souls and a Waypoint right next to it.
You can summon Una and speak to her next to the Tree of Souls. She explains that you must travel to the Red Vale, investigate its runes, and bring them back to Renly.
The Red Vale’s Obelisks Of Rust In Path Of Exile 2
To find the Red Vale’s entrance in Path of Exile 2, you have to go in the opposite direction from where you came from. For example, if you entered the Grelwood from the far east, then the Red Vale’s entrance is in the far west of the area.
Inside the Red Vale, your objective will change to:
- Search the Red Vale for Obelisks of Rust containing Runes of Power
You have to find the three Obelisks of Rust scattered around. They’re mostly scattered in the center with a river in the way. Usually, if you come across Refined Arms in that area, it means you’re on the right track.
The first two Obelisks of Rust summon many enemies that will crowd and overwhelm your character. However, the last one summons the Rust King who will also try to overwhelm your character with tons of enemies.
The Tree Of Souls In Path Of Exile 2
After beating the Rust King and finding the runes, bring them back to Renly, who’ll create three Rune Spikes from them. The quest’s objective will change to:
- Travel to the Grelwood
Take the Spikes and stab the Tree of Souls in each of its Runic Seals. Once you do that, you’ll get an objective to return to Clearfell encampment and speak to Una. Doing so will complete the Secrets in the Dark quest and start the Mysterious Shade quest in Path of Exile 2.
