Path of Exile 2 has a lot of classic ARPG elements, with one of the bigger ones being how much loot you'll find while you play. When constantly creating new Instances and traveling to new areas, you'll find all sorts of items, some that are worth equipping, and some that aren't.

Just because an item isn't worth equipping right away doesn't mean you shouldn't still pick it up. There are many uses for loot, especially for those of the blue rarity or higher, that make it always worth hanging onto everything you can until you return to town next. Here are all the things you can do with extra loot.

Path of Exile 2: All Ailments Explained

There are a few ailments that players can use or have used on them in Path of Exile 2; here's what each one does.

What To Do With Extra Loot In Path of Exile 2

The first thing you should do with all new loot is identify it using a Scroll of Wisdom. You can also use The Hooded One to mass identify your items after progressing through the main story about halfway through Act 1. Once identified, you'll see all the stats of something to really know if it's worth using or not.

If it's not worth using, return to town whenever you're not fighting and do any of the following:

Name

Explanation

Disenchant

Each town will have someone who can disenchant magical gear, anything of blue rarity or higher. This will break down that item into a material that can be fused with similar materials to upgrade other gear pieces to be the same rarity as the original gear pieces you disenchanted. Disenchanting destroys the original item.

Salvage

Gear pieces with a rune slot can be salvaged at a Salvage Bench creating an Artificer's Shard which can be fused to make an Artificer's Orb. Artificer's Orbs can be put on magical gear to give them a rune slot. Salvaging destroys the original item.

Sell

Your last resort can be to sell your gear at any merchant, though this should always be a last resort as it will only give gold. Gold can be used to purchase new gear though found gear is often better and purchased gear is far overpriced.

If a particular piece of gear is very strong and you wish to hold onto it, you can also put it in your stash for later use or use on another character. It is important to know your stash is only shared with characters of the same league, so you can't just strengthen your Hardcore character with high-end gear.
