Path of Exile 2 has announced its next major update, The Third Edict, which will be available to all players on August 29. In addition to revealing the anticipated Path of Exile 2 update, Grind Gear Games has detailed the content and features players can expect.
Path of Exile 2 has been receiving regular updates since its early access launch in December 2024, some of which have introduced significant content to the game. That was the case with Dawn of the Hunt, a Path of Exile 2 update that arrived in April 2025 and introduced the new Huntress class. With a long list of additions and changes, some new features included five Ascension Classes, over 100 new Supports and Unique items, two item classes, and several endgame adjustments. Now, Path of Exile 2 players are gearing up for what's to come, as the next big update to the action RPG is arriving soon.

Developer Grinding Gear Games is shifting its strategy for Path of Exile 2's update cycles to benefit the game’s upcoming content.
Path of Exile 2 Introduces The Third Edict Update on August 29
Grind Gear Games has revealed The Third Edict, the upcoming major update for Path of Exile 2, which will be available on August 29. Confirming speculation from the Path of Exile 2 community, The Third Edict will introduce Act 4 of the campaign, in which players must travel to a Karui archipelago called Ngamakanui and find fragments of a weapon that is the only hope against the Beast. In total, the archipelago has eight islands that can be visited in any order, with landscapes like beaches and volcanic coasts, as well as various dangers.
Although it does not add a new class as players had hoped, new Path of Exile 2 bosses will be available after the release of The Third Edict, including Lord of Kin, Diamora, and Song of Death. Another important change will be in the endgame: previously, to unlock it, it was necessary to play the three Acts twice. Now, Path of Exile 2 will get three interludes with new areas and bosses for gamers to play up to level 65, which is when the endgame begins.
To celebrate the release of The Third Edict, Path of Exile 2 will be free to play from Friday, August 29, through Monday, September 1. During this period, PC and console players will have access to all content available in Path of Exile 2, including The Third Edict update. After September 1, they will have the option to purchase an early access key and continue playing, or wait for the game's full release.
