The Well of Souls is a hidden location in Path of Exile 2 required to reveal Desecrated modifiers, a special hidden stat on certain items. Without it, there is no way to put these hidden modifiers into effect.
Fortunately, the Well of Souls becomes available very early on in the campaign of PoE 2, making it possible for low level characters to access it easily. Here is where it is located.
Path of Exile 2: Where to Find Ange (Trade Market NPC)
Path of Exile 2’s in-game trade market system is tied to an NPC named Ange, who can only be found in a very specific location in the game.
Where to Find the Well of Souls in Path of Exile 2
Lightless Passage Location
The Well of Souls can be found in the Lightless Passage in Act 2 of Path of Exile 2, which is located in the Mastodon Badlands. To find the entrance, explore the edges of the Mastodon Badlands map until you see a small dirt path leading down to the Lightless Passage (pictured above).
Enter the Lightless Passage and venture through the area to look for the entrance to the Well of Souls. Inside, you’ll find the Lurking Creature with a golden quest marker above its head.
Interact with it and The Hooded One will arrive to gift you the language of the ancients, allowing you to understand what it’s saying and unlocking the ability to use the Well of Souls.
After you unlock its Waypoint, the Well of Souls will appear on the side of your World Map screen as a fast-travel location, just like Ascendancy Trials and hideouts.
How To Reveal Desecrated Modifiers in Path of Exile 2
How to Use the Well of Souls
Visit the Well of Souls and place a Desecrated item inside the receptacle. Click “Reveal” and you’ll see three different modifiers you can choose from. Pick the one you like best and hit "Confirm."
The selected modifier will be added to your item.
Only Rare tier items can be Desecrated, except when using the Omen of Putrefaction.
Desecrated Modifiers can be added to items by using Abyssal Bones like the Gnawed Jawbone. There are three different tiers of Abyssal Bones: Gnawed, Preserved, and Ancient, all of which can be found by doing Abyssal content in PoE 2.
Once a Desecrated modifier has been added, it will only appear as a line of green-colored gibberish. To reveal it, you’ll need to visit the Well of Souls. The outcome of this craft can be influenced by Omens.
Crafting currency like Vaal Orbs, Chaos Orbs, and Divine Orbs can still be used on an item with a Desecrated modifier.
