  • Romopolis, developed by Lonely Troops, offers a casual ancient Roman city-building experience with a campaign mode and 22 achievements.

A casual city-building sim, Romopolis, is currently free for PC gamers to grab from the Microsoft Store for a limited time. Occasionally, games are given away for no cost on the Microsoft Store, though perhaps not as frequently as other platforms. And when there is a game to claim for free, it’s not often widely advertised.

There are also a number of games that are perpetually free to download from the Microsoft Store. These include “smaller” titles like Microsoft Mahjong, Microsoft Solitaire Collection, and of course the all-time classic game Minesweeper. There is a range of free-to-play games with in-app purchases to check out as well, and sometimes there is a more in-depth release for players to enjoy.

Developed and published by Lonely Troops, Romopolis will be free to claim from the Microsoft Store until October 28. The sim game was originally released in 2009 and has a “Mostly Positive” user review rating on Steam. Normally priced at $4.99, Romopolis is also currently free to download from the Google Play Store and the App Store, and the indie city builder has also received a reduction to $0.99 on the Epic Games Store for gamers who prefer that platform. Another Lonely Troops game, Hero of the Kingdom 3, has also had its price lowered by 85% to $1.49 on the Microsoft Store.

Romopolis Sends Players to Ancient Rome

Romopolis offers a casual historical city-building experience for fans of simulation games. Players will have the opportunity to build an ancient Roman city with dozens of houses and other structures to choose from. The game features a campaign mode with over 24 unique scenarios to enjoy, and players can even create their own custom scenarios. The difficulty can also be adjusted by removing the time limit for more casual play. Romopolis features 22 achievements as well, adding another level of fun to the game.

Lonely Troops is the developer behind the long-running Heroes of the Kingdom series, which consists of three mainline games and two spinoffs called The Lost Tales. But for gamers who appreciate the casual city-building gameplay offered by Romopolis, the studio has two more titles to check out. Megapolis puts players in the role of an architect in a more modern city, while Townopolis sets them in a rural setting for a small town feel.
