The new trailer for Peacemaker season 2 sees John Cena back as the titular character and introduces four characters from James Gunn's wider DC Universe. The first season of Peacemaker aired in 2022 following the character's appearance in The Suicide Squad, which Gunn also directed. The show saw him returning home after the movie's events, when his rest is cut short, and he's forced into a plot where his father ultimately plays his greatest foe. Along with Cena in the lead, the series stars Danielle Brooks, Freddie Stroma, Jennifer Holland, Steve Agee, and Dee Bradley Baker as his trusted bald eagle, Eagly.

Gunn has since taken control of the DC Universe slate for Warner Bros., and with that comes a revamping of their film and TV projects. Peacemaker is one of the few things that has carried over, despite the first season containing some conflicting events with the Justice League that the show may acknowledge. Peacemaker season 2 has been in production for a while, with audiences eager to see how the character's darkly funny antics would continue. Luckily, the trailer sheds some light on the new season and doesn't hold back on character reveals.

Max shared the trailer on YouTube, and it immediately features Peacemaker in an interview with Isabela Merced's Hawkgirl, Sean Gunn's Maxwell Lord, and Nathan Fillion's Guy Gardner. As the show does, Peacemaker walks away dejected, as the trailer shows he and his team from last season aren't where they had hoped. Peacemaker Is Making Its Connections To The DC Universe Known

The Peacemaker trailer wastes no time in introducing big-name characters who play a larger role in Gunn's growing DCU. During Peacemaker's initial interview scene, he finds himself sitting across from Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl and Guy Gardner's Green Lantern. The latter two characters have already appeared in the trailer for the upcoming Superman film, showing Gunn's willingness to connect their flagship superhero movie with their TV world. While the scene may play mainly as a joke, it displays how important Peacemaker could be to the wider DCU.

Frank Grillo's inclusion as Rick Flag Sr. Shows Gunn's wide-reaching plans. The actor first played the character in the animated series Creature Commandos. Rick Flag Sr. Also looks set to be a character that connects a few properties in the DCU. Grillo is set to appear in the new Superman movie and the Waller series starring Viola Davis as the titular character, which is said to be in pre-production. However, beyond helping add to the connective tissue of the universe, Rick Flag Sr. Will serve as an antagonist to Peacemaker in season 2, making for a foe that audiences can sympathize with to a degree, and posing a moral question that should see Cena's anti-hero dealing with forced introspection. Peacemaker's second season is slated to hit Max on August 21, after Superman, meaning more light may be shed on many of these characters.
