Summary

  • Peacemaker will join Superman in laying the groundwork for the new DC Universe.
  • Season 2 of Peacemaker sets up 100 different universes in the DC Universe franchise.
  • Fans can expect returning characters, action scenes, and more.

Peacemaker is set to debut its second season on HBO Max later this year. News coming out of the San Diego Comic-Con highlights the show as the project that will truly lay the groundwork for the new DC Universe (DCU).

Warner Bros. Has had a rough go of it with their DC projects over the past decade or so. Sure, high marks like Wonder Woman and The Suicide Squad stand out, but the overall DC Extended Universe (DCEU) of films crashed and burned so hard with audiences and critics alike that WB decided to reboot the entire franchise. The connected universe seemed doomed from the moment Batman v. Superman: Dawn of Justice failed to meet expectations back in 2016, so the fact that the DCEU survived up through 2023 is somewhat of a minor miracle in itself. All in all, the DCEU lasted ten years and put fifteen films in theaters worldwide. That isn't too shabby when compared to something like Universal's so-called Dark Universe, which was mercifully killed off after a solitary film: 2017's disastrous The Mummy. Things are looking better for DC and WB this time around as Creature Commandos and Superman have done well with audiences and Peacemaker aims to continue that upward trajectory.

DC's Peacemaker Series Confirms Batman Villain For Season Two

Peacemaker has made fun of Batman for not finishing off his villains, and now the man himself will get a shot at one of the Dark Knight's adversaries.

Numerous details about the second season of Peacemaker were revealed at the San Diego Comic-Con, along with a brand new trailer. Many fans have been wondering how the first season of Peacemaker was a part of the DCEU and the second would be a part of the DCU. Well, now we know: Peacemaker will supposedly establish that there are at least 100 different universes housed within the DC Universe franchise. The first episode is set a month after the events of Superman and both Guy Gardner and Hawkgirl are set to appear. The season deals with Peacemaker going to an alternate universe that will accept him as a hero and the consequences that result from that action.

Peacemaker Picks Up Where Superman Left Off In Establishing The New DC Universe

Hope You're Ready For A New Dance Sequence As Well

With multiple episodes directed by both James Gunn and Superbad's Greg Mottola, it is clear Peacemaker's second season is swinging for the fences. Frank Grillo's Rick Flag Sr. Seems to play a significant part after his brief screentime in Superman. Flag Sr. Is on the hunt for Peacemaker as John Cena's character killed Rick Flag Jr. In The Suicide Squad. Fans will also get to enjoy a fight scene between two John Cenas as Peacemakers from different universes face off against each other mano a mano.

There are numerous other returning faces besides Cena, as well. Fan-favorite Leota Adebayo, played by Danielle Brooks, is back to keep Cena's Peacemaker in line. Other returning characters include Freddie Stroma's Adrian Chase, Jennifer Holland's Emilia Harcourt, and Steve Agee's John Economos. In the least surprising news about the show thus far, James Gunn's brother Sean will be reprising his role of Maxwell Lord from Superman.

Taken as a whole, there seems to be a lot to look forward to for DC fans. Let's see if Peacemaker can live up to the hype.
