PEAK is one of the most successful indie games of 2025, and has brought countless hours of fun to groups of friends and brave solo explorers alike. However, while it does a lot right and could be said to achieve success through simplicity, it still has its fair share of small pitfalls or areas to refine.

PEAK: All Items & What They Do

Most items in PEAK will make climbing rocks easier or cure status effects; here's a look at all the items in the game and what they do.

There are a number of quality-of-life improvements and new features for PEAK which would be great to see, with some of these filling more pressing issues, while others are pipeline dreams. Some of these desired features have been made into mods for PEAK, but ideally, players wouldn't have to rely on them.

7 The Ability To Save Progress

Not Everyone Can Set Aside An Hour Or Longer To Complete A Hike

PEAK - How to Save the Game With Mods

One of the biggest features missing from the co-op mountain climber is the ability to save the game. This can be frustrating for those who cannot set aside the time required for an uninterrupted hike. Players should be able to make progress, save, and come off for whatever reason, and then return to the exact same location with the correct items and status, whenever they want.

Having no saves is also an issue for those who encounter crashes or have poor internet. Thankfully, until a proper feature is added, there is a way to save in PEAK using mods.

6 Coach Co-op/Split Screen

A Fun Game To Kick Back & Enjoy, & Also Good For Those With Bad Internet

PEAK participation achievement

PEAK is best enjoyed with friends online, but it also has the potential to be an amazing couch co-op game. It would be great to sit back with a friend, partner, or family member on a couch and try to climb the mountain together, offering helpful hands, using ropes, and carrying each other short distances.

Local co-op/split screen would also be great for those with bad internet, as they would be able to play offline, but still together. Otherwise, PEAK can be rather punishing for those who momentarily disconnect.

5 A Release On Consoles With Crossplay

More Players Should Be Able To Experience Peak With Friends On Any Platform

peak might come to consoles

Seeing as PEAK is a huge success on PC, console players will be hoping to see the game released on Xbox and PlayStation in the future. This casual co-op game is perfectly suited for consoles, and ideally, a crossplay feature would accompany a console release, allowing any friends to play with one another, regardless of their platform of choice.

Of course, porting a game over to different platforms isn't as simple as it sounds, so even if the developers decide to do so, it could be a while before console players can put their climbing skills to the test. Thankfully, in the meantime, there are plenty of great co-op games similar to PEAK.

4 Bigger Party Sizes

Some Friend Groups Exceed The 4-Player Limit

PEAK July Update Anti-rope cannon

One of the most popular mods allows more than 4 players into a game of PEAK at once. However, it would be great to see such a feature added to the base game, as mods come with their own complications and bugs.

Some friend groups simply exceed the 4-player limit, and if there are no technical or server limitations, it would be great for everyone to be able to play at once. Of course, some balancing might be required, such as an increase in resources, but players clearly want this feature, judging by the mod's popularity.

3 PvP/Race To The Top Mode

A Different Way To Play The Game

PEAK is all about having fun together and helping one another to the top. Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see the friendly scout vibes turned on their heads down the line in a separate game mode. Imagine everyone being dropped alone on the island, with limited resources to reach first. Alternatively, players could be dropped with their friends and have to work against another group.

While combat likely wouldn't make sense aside from throwing coconuts at one another, opponents could perhaps cut ropes, throw away surplus loot, or perhaps block certain trails. This could make for a unique experience, whilst still being PEAK at its core.

2 More Biomes

More Variety Is Needed After Many Hours

popular co-op peak sells 5 million copies

Each mountain in Peak is made up of five different biomes, with each posing its own threats whilst offering different resources, thus making for varied gameplay. However, even though the map seeds change each day, having the same biomes in the exact same order can get repetitive after a while.

These beginner PEAK tips will help new players find their footing and start climbing to the top of the island with confidence.

New biomes in PEAK could add new challenges and get players more excited about what they will find next. This could be similar to how biomes in Valheim appear randomly. Examples of potential new biomes include swamps, an arid desert, and perhaps more mythical regions.

1 More Map Seeds

Apparently, There Are Only 14 Map Seeds In Rotation

Island in PEAK

Every day, players will see a countdown in PEAK's main menu until the island changes. For many hours of gameplay, most players won't notice any repetition, especially if they aren't playing each day. However, speedrunners and hardcore enthusiasts have reported that the map seeds repeat after 14 days.

For the longevity of the game, new map seeds will need to be added in the future, otherwise players will learn the best routes off by heart, removing the natural exploration and trial-and-error gameplay loop. Ideally, the islands would be procedurally generated, but making maps random while still working and having fair paths up would be quite the challenge.
