Patch 1.7 for Peak has been released, adding localization support and tweaking a number of game mechanics. Developed as a collaborative effort between indie game studios Aggro Crab and Landfall Games, Peak is a humorous climbing game that tasks up to four players with difficult climbs up steep cliffsides. Incorporating survival mechanics such as hunger, stamina, and scavenging, players must work together if they want to navigate through the game's procedurally generated terrains successfully.

Aggro Crab and Landfall, known collectively as Landcrab, released Peak on June 16 and quickly went viral. Peak sold 1 million copies in just six days, shooting up the Steam charts and reaching a 24-hour peak of over 100,000 players. With its low price tag, high replayability, and humorous gameplay mechanics, Peak even managed to outsell AAA titles like Elden Ring: Nightreign and Dune: Awakening in terms of revenue, prompting the indie developers to direct their focus to supporting their surprise hit as much as possible.

PEAK: How to Get Infinite Stamina

Stamina is what keeps you going in PEAK. Interestingly, there’s a way to get infinite stamina which makes it pretty easy to get a successful run.

Update 1.7 for the co-op climber was released on July 11, bringing a number of planned changes to Peak previously promised by the developers. One major addition made in the update is increased localization, bringing the number of supported languages to 12. Players who boot up the game before reading the new patch notes may learn about some changes the hard way. For example, climbers attempting to pass along a whole coconut are now liable to bonk their fellow scout. On the other hand, players can use this to their advantage, as fruits and other items can now be thrown at beehives to knock them down.

Another interesting tweak made in the update affects the Anti-Rope Spool and Anti-Rope Cannon in Peak, the weights of which have both been adjusted to -1 instead of 0, causing them to float away the second they leave a scout's hands. The change to these powerful items is marked as a balance change in the patch notes, and it isn't clear if their new floaty property will be permanent. It's not all bad news though, as both Rope Shooters and Anti-Rope Shooters now fire 50% more rope than before.

It's unlikely the new Anti-Rope shenanigans will deter players considering Peak's reputation as an already unpredictable game. The game thrives on failure and the humorous moments it can bring, which has made Peak steams popular with Twitch viewers. Here's hoping Landcrab's next update for Peak brings more new content to keep players climbing.

Peak Update 1.7 Patch Notes

LOCALIZATION:

Translations are in! The game is now available in the following languages:

  • English
  • French
  • Italian
  • German
  • Spanish (Spain)
  • Spanish (LATAM)
  • Brazilian Portuguese
  • Russian
  • Ukrainian
  • Chinese (Simplified)
  • Japanese
  • Korean

FEATURES:

  • Whole coconuts will now bonk scouts when thrown at them. We were considering making every item bonk but then none of you would ever reach the PEAK again.
  • Re-added the ability to throw items at fruits and beehives to knock them down. Not sure when that broke but we’re so back.

BALANCE CHANGES:

  • Bugle of Friendship will no longer show up in Solo Play
  • Rope Spool now has a weight of 1 instead of 0. Anti-Rope Spool and Anti-Rope Shooter now have a weight of -1
  • Chain Launchers now cannot be shot above or below a certain angle past the horizon line. This is to remove unintended use cases where a chain launcher shot directly upwards would get you much further than other items – it’s intended to be used for lateral traversal!
  • Rope Shooters and Anti-Rope Shooters shoot 50% more rope!
  • Anti-Rope Spool and Anti-Rope Shooter physics will now behave differently if you let go of them…
  • Made ticks easier to remove in Solo Play

FIXES:

  • Fixed an issue where backpacks would become non-interactable. This was a tricky one to solve so thanks for your patience on it!!
  • Fixed an issue where the campfire would not be lightable if a friend reconnected to the game.
  • We potentially solved the issue where explosive spores crashed the game when triggered. Please try it out and let us know if it works now!
  • Fixed a bug where an item held in the temporary item slot would not contribute to your weight
  • Fixed an issue where guidebook SFX was not spatialized.
  • Players will now fall off pitons when passed out, fixing an issue where, on revival, they don’t experience teleporting back to the piton.
  • Potentially fixed an issue where Chain Shooters would spawn with nothing in the chamber.
  • Potentially fixed an issue where players screens would go black.
