Tohru Adachi isn't a limited-time party member like Goro Akechi or Shinjiro Aragaki. However, he proves to be vital to the plot of Persona 4 and Persona 4 Golden. Those that were disappointed to see Adachi wasn't a Social Link in the original Persona 4 got what they wanted in Golden. He's added to the list of 20+ Social Links, representing the Jester Arcana.
Players will want to start Adachi's Social Link as soon as it becomes available less they're blindsided by its deadline. Completing it is the only way to unlock one of Persona 4 Golden's endings. Depending on the player's decisions, Adachi's Social Link can potentially lead to a Bad Ending. Before that can happen, they'll need to reach Rank 10 as they work around Adachi's unique schedule.
Major spoilers for late-game Persona 4 Golden.
Which Days are Adachi Available?
Adachi is the only Social Link that is available during day and night depending on the Rank. Thanks to this unpredictability, the protagonist will want to spend their early-game free time with him before the evening-exclusive Social Links become available.
His Social Link unlocks on May 13th. During the day, he can be found at Junes. In the evenings, he's outside the Gas Station in South Shopping District.
Adachi isn't available on Mondays, Tuesdays, etc. Instead, he's limited to specific days and months. Here are the dates players will want to make note of:
- May: 13th, 20th, 23rd, 25th, 27th, 30th
- June: 5th, 10th, 11th, 15th (night only), 26th, 28th
- July: 2nd, 4th, 5th, 12th, 14th, 24th, 25th
- August: 23rd, 25th
- September: 19th, 20th, 23th, 24th, 27th, 30th
- October: 6th, 12th, 21st, 24th, 26th
- November: 1st
If players intend on getting to Rank 10 of the Jester Social Link, they need to have Rank 6 by November 1st. If they don't, they'll be locked out of Ranks 7-10 for the remainder of the playthrough.
Adachi Social Link Guide
Adachi's location will change depending on the Rank that he's at with the protagonist. For example, Rank 3 is at night, so if players are ready to start Rank 3, they'll find Adachi outside the gas station in the evening. If they're about to start Rank 5 (daytime), they'll find him at Junes. Thus, it's better to just check both locations on the days that Adachi is available.
The protagonist should have a Persona of the Jester Arcana when he goes to spend time with Adachi. This will add an extra point when choosing the best response. The following Persona are Jester:

Rank 1
The first Rank is accessible during the day/afternoon as early as May 15th. It's automatic and won't generate any points toward the Social Link, so payers can choose whichever response they want. Since it's the first Rank, they don't need to bring a matching Persona this time either. However, because Adachi has a strict deadline and limited days, they'll want to get in the habit of bringing one afterward.

December 5th
On December 5th, the Investigation Team will try to deduce who the real killer is. Players will have the option to choose who they suspect. If it wasn't obvious, Tohru Adachi is the real killer. However, if players have reached Rank 8 of the Jester Social Link, they can reveal the truth, or they can lie to protect Adachi.
If player choose to tell their friends about Adachi, they'll be on the path to the Good or the True Ending of Persona 4 Golden. If players choose to protect Adachi, they'll be marked down for a Bad Ending or the P4G- exclusive Accomplice Ending. P4G really pushes for the protagonist to be honest, but for players that want the Accomplice Ending, they'll need to do the opposite:

Adachi Social Link (cont.)
After December 5th, Adachi's Social Link breaks off into two paths depending on the player's choice. It's still entirely possible for players to lock themselves out of Rank 10 for Adachi's Social Link if they're not careful, so pay close attention to the dialogue trees.
Those that pursue the Normal/True ending will get Rank 9-10 as they advance the main story. Others looking for the Accomplice Ending will go from December 5th directly to Rank 10 as long as the protagonist chooses to visit Adachi when prompted.
Rank 8.5 (Normal Ending)
Despite Yosuke and the others' warnings, the protagonist is going to need to confront Adachi alone if they want to unlock Rank 10 on the non-Accomplice path. Here's what players need to do for Rarnk 8.5:

With Adachi's true intentions revealed, his Arcana changes from Jester to Hunger. Any Persona that was under the Jester Arcana will now be Hunger Arcana.
Rank 9 (Normal Ending)
Rank 9 unlocks/advances when players defeat Ameno-Sagiri. There's one dialogue prompt, but it doesn't matter what the protagonist says. If players have made it this far, there's no way to lock themselves out of Rank 10 as long as they're pursuing the True Ending.

Rank 10 (Normal/True Ending)
This Rank is automatic and will occur on March 20th but only if the protagonist chooses to go to Junes instead of returning home. He'll receive the Adachi's Letter Key Item as well as max out the Hunger Arcana. If players choose to return home, they'll get the Good Ending and be locked out of maxing Adachi's Social Link for that playthrough.
Rank 10 (Accomplice Ending)
If players chose to protect Adachi on December 5th, they'll be locked into the Bad or Accomplice Ending. Make sure to select the correct choices when prompted. Choosing to go home without seeing Adachi will prevent the Jester Social Link from being maxed out. Make sure to select the answers that "side with Adachi" to get the Accomplice Ending. If done correctly, players will receive the Key Item, Adachi's Number.

Social Link Completion Reward
The Key Items, Adachi's Letter (Good/True Ending) or Adachi's Number (Accomplice Ending), allow players to fuse Magatsu-Izanagi, the ultimate form of the Jester/Hunger Arcana. These will carry over into NG+, allowing the protagonist to fuse Magatsu-Izanagi without doing Adachi's Social Link.
Magatsu-Izanagi is a level 77 Persona. He can't be fused if the protagonist is below that level. He requires a Special Fusion (Triangle) with the following combinations:
- Seth (Moon) + Alilat (Empress) + Surt (Magician)
- Horus (Sun) + Seth (Moon) + Alilat (Empress)
- Yoshitsune (Tower) + Tzitzimitl (Priestess) + Alilat (Empress)
- Seth (Moon) + Alilat (Empress) + Alice (Death)
- Shiki-Ouji (Fool) + Surt (Magician) + Alice (Death)
Unlike Izanagi, Magatsu-Izanagi nulls light and darkness. He has no Affinity Weaknesses and will learn powerful Skills such as Megidolaon (heavy Almighty damage) and Vorpal Blade (heavy Physical damage to all enemies). Other noteworthy Skills are Power Charge (doubles Physical damage on the next turn) and Heat Riser (raises attack, defense, accuracy/evasion by one stage for three turns).
Persona 4 Golden is available on PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
