Summary

  • Amanda Winn-Lee has not been asked to return as Yukiko Amagi for the reported Persona 4 remake.
  • Yuri Lowenthal and Erin Fitzgerald previously confirmed they won't reprise their roles as Yosuke and Chie, respectively.
  • The much-rumored Persona 4 remake may be announced at the next Xbox Games Showcase on June 8.

Persona 4 actor Amanda Winn-Lee has confirmed that she has not been asked to reprise her role as Yukiko Amagi for the reported remake. Winn-Lee is the third Persona 4 actor to deny their involvement in the heavily rumored reimagining of the 2008 classic JRPG.

Atlus has been rumored to be remaking Persona 4 since early 2024, around the time that its Persona 3 remake released to widespread critical acclaim. With circumstantial evidence testifying to the existence of the project piling up, fans started inquiring about this possibility with the original voice cast. This prompted Yuri Lowenthal to say he wouldn't return as Yosuke Hanamura even though he might have "begged" to be involved in the Persona 4 remake, as he put it in a now-deleted Bluesky post from May 28.

A Persona 4 Remake Would Have to Answer One Burning Question About Physical Skills

While a Persona 4 remake would have plenty of mechanics to handle, the game's physical skills raise a rather interesting question.

Persona 4 Golden Chie actor Erin Fitzgerald also said she wasn't involved in the rumored project a day later. Amanda Winn-Lee has now followed suit, confirming Atlus hadn't approached her to reprise her role as Yukiko Amagi. The American actress cited fan inquiries as the reason she's commenting on the matter at all.

Atlus Has Already Recast Some Persona 4 Characters in the Past

Given that Persona 3 Reload featured an entirely new voice cast, the likelihood of Atlus taking a similar approach with its rumored reimagining of Persona 4 seems well within the realm of possibility. Several main characters in Persona 4 have already been recast in the past; Chie Satonaka was originally voiced by Tracey Rooney before being replaced by Erin Fitzgerald after Persona 4, while Matthew Mercer succeeded Troy Baker as the voice of Kanji following P4 Golden. Similarly, Naoto was voiced by Anna Graves in the 2008 original and by Valie Arem from P4 Golden onward.

A known leaker has recently claimed that the Persona 4 remake is planned to be announced at the Xbox Games Showcase 2025, which is scheduled to take place on June 8. Separately, a yet-unknown entity registered the p4re.jp domain in April 2025. For reference, p3re.jp was also registered several months ahead of the Persona 3 Reload announcement at the June 2023 Xbox Games Showcase. While Lowenthal, Fitzgerald, and Winn-Lee claim they aren't involved in the rumored remake, some fans have been amused by the fact that these public denials arrived in the same order their characters are introduced in Persona 4. This coincidence has sparked some tongue-in-cheek theories suggesting the denials are part of an elaborate pre-reveal marketing stunt.

Although the original cast may not return for the remake, Persona 4 vocalist Shihoko Hirata might, based on some circumstantial evidence that surfaced in early 2025. In addition to PC and consoles, the purported reimagining is rumored to be coming to Xbox Game Pass on day one. If revealed at the next Xbox Games Showcase, the Persona 4 remake would likely end up targeting a release window between late 2025 and early 2026.
