Persona 4 Revival is Coming at the Right Time for Everyone—But Me
The Persona 4 Revival announcement has tons of fans excited, as it should, but it has me slightly regretting recent life choices.
Persona 4 Revival has finally been revealed after plenty of speculation, but its reveal could hold an unfortunate omen for Persona 6. After Persona 3 Reload saw significant success, a Persona 4 remake feels like a natural next step. Now that remake has been confirmed, and fans have reason to feel confident that it may repeat history. However, the big story may not be the game itself, but the teaser that announced it, because after all, a Persona 4 remake had been rumored for a while. The real source of intrigue may be the implications that it holds for Persona 6.
The revamped Persona 3 Reload took what was already a classic game for Atlus and gave it a fresh coat of paint. In addition to the graphical upgrades that came from current-gen hardware, the game saw several mechanical changes that changed up its formula. The addition of a reworked version of Persona 5's Baton pass as well as new ideas like Theurgies gave the game extra value even for those who had played the original version many years ago. It seems likely that Persona 4 Revival will end up following the same formula, and hopefully it will reach a similar level of acclaim.

This weekend, Persona 4 Revival was revealed at the Xbox Games Showcase, Next to an announcement of Persona 6, it was probably one of the biggest pieces of news that Persona fans could have hoped for. However, outside of revealing the remake's existence, very little was actually shown. Much of the announcement consisted of art that admittedly made it obvious that it was for Persona 4 even before the footage started. However, the only gameplay footage that was shown was a few seconds of the protagonist walking down a street in Inaba. Everything else about Persona 4 Revival is still a mystery.

Barely Anything Was Shown in Persona 4 Revival's Teaser
The lack of information about any new features in Persona 4 Revival can be taken to imply that the game is still a long way from release. This is backed up by the fact that no release date was brought up in the teaser either. Admittedly, it was a teaser rather than a full trailer, more to build hype than anything. Later trailers and interviews will likely fill in the gaps when it comes to what players should expect. Even so, the lack of information implies that Persona 4 Revival is still a long way off, at least until further developments prove otherwise.
Persona 6 Probably Won't Release Until Well After Persona 4 Revival
This speculation also affects expectations for Persona 6. It's likely that Persona 4 Revival will release before Persona 6, since the latter has yet to see a reveal trailer. With Persona 4 Revival's teaser making it seem like that game is a long way from launching, that implies that it will take even longer for Persona 6 to come out. With how big of a release Persona 6 will be, Atlus is unlikely to do anything that would draw attention away from its hype. Since Persona 4 Revival is getting hyped now, it's almost certain to come out first, and then will Persona 6 follow sometime afterward.
Persona 4 Revival has only barely been revealed, and it might be a while before more information comes out. How much Persona 4 Revival follows Persona 3 Reload will have to be seen. However, it's safe to assume that it will be the franchise's main focus until its release. With that release seeming to be a long way off, that pushes the possible release of Persona 6 even further into the horizon. It's good to have Persona 4 Revival confirmed, but it might mean a long wait for Persona 6.
