Summary

  • Persona 5: The Phantom X is moving from mobile to consoles, with global launch and new content planned.
  • Currently exclusive to Asia, the gacha RPG features original story, mini-games, and a pull system.
  • The future looks bright for Persona 5 spin-off with crossovers planned.

The developers behind Persona 5: The Phantom X confirmed that the popular mobile gacha game spin-off will soon make the jump to consoles. Since its regional release back in April of this year, the Persona 5 spin-off title has enjoyed substantial success, to the point that it didn't take long before Sega began to look into the possible benefits of a global launch. Now, a recent offline event held in Shanghai additionally hinted at what developers might have in store for Persona 5: The Phantom X, with new content, collaborations, and ports reportedly planned out.

While diehard Persona 5 fans might have already heard of its mobile spin-off, there are likely some players who were not aware that Atlus' critically-acclaimed and beloved JRPG spawned an exclusive gacha title only playable in South Korea, Taiwan, and China. Developed by Black Wings Game Studio, Persona 5: The Phantom X is a turn-based RPG following the journey of Wonder, a young high school student who is drawn into the metaverse after a fateful encounter with the talking owl, Ruferu. Apart from sharing the same setting as the mainline series, Persona 5: The Phantom X features unique features, such as new mini-games, an original storyline, and a gacha pull system.

However, unlike other beloved Persona 5 spin-offs, Persona 5: The Phantom X is currently exclusive to select regions in Asia and can only be played on PC and mobile devices. Fortunately, global fans and console users alike might not have to wait long before they can try the mobile game for themselves. As cited in a report by Persona Central, producers Lao V and Yosuke Uda together with character designer Shigenori Soejima attended an offline event where they confirmed a console port is in the pipeline. The developers notably did not give an exact date for when the ports might be released, but stated that development would begin after the game's global debut.

The Future Of Persona 5: The Phantom X

Apart from the global release, the developers' statements also seem to directly confirm previous reports claiming Sega was looking into an international release for Persona 5: The Phantom X, meaning Western fans might soon be able to play the spin-off on their phones and desktops. Furthermore, they additionally discussed plans for future content, revealing that there are already plans for crossovers with Persona 5 Royal, Persona 3 Reload, and Persona 4 Golden.

A console release for Persona 5: The Phantom X is only the latest in a long string of promising reports for the future of the Persona franchise as a whole. Most notably, there are rumors that Atlus is already busy with the development of Persona 6, and fans hope that developers will officially reveal the next mainline entry into the series before the end of the year.
