Atlus mentioned Persona 6 following years of silence, name-dropping the much-anticipated game in a recent survey. The questionnaire also raises the possibility of several other yet-to-be-announced games, though it frames them as less certain than Persona 6.
Persona 6 was first confirmed to be in development in July 2021 via several job ads posted to Japanese website Green. The listings included a quote from Atlus Executive Producer Naoto Hiraoka, who referenced the project and said the company's hiring spree was partly driven by the ambition to surpass the latest mainline entry. "Exceeding [Persona] 5 will be difficult with the current staff," Hiraoka was quoted as saying. The remark did not clarify whether sequel was already in pre-production at the time.
Persona 6 Has the Chance to Bring the Series Full Circle with One Character
The Persona franchise has moved further away from its origins with each entry, but the return of one familiar face would fix this in the next game.
Atlus Asks Fans Whether They're Looking Forward to Persona 6
Over four years later, the Sega subsidiary has referenced Persona 6 again. This time around, the mention was even more casual, having been spotted in a survey sent to the Japanese owners of the Persona 3 Reload Switch 2 version, which was released on October 23. One question in particular may interest fans: number 29 asks respondents to select one or more Persona titles they are looking forward to in the future. Persona 6 is among the choices, alongside Persona 4 Revival and modernized versions of the first two mainline entries.
The question uses the phrase 期待すること (kitai suru koto), a nominalized expression that refers to the act of expecting or anticipating, and is commonly translated as "to expect" in English. This phrasing does not confirm that all of the listed games are in development and guaranteed to be coming out; rather, it essentially asks respondents which titles they hope to see in the future. Since Persona 4 Revival has already been announced and Persona 6 was also confirmed to exist, this uncertainty applies only to the potential remakes or remasters of the first two entries.
When Could Persona 6 Finally Be Announced?
The next major opportunity for Atlus and Sega to announce Persona 6 could be The Game Awards 2025 in December, assuming they do not opt for a standalone event. However, that possibility remains open, as Persona 5 was originally revealed during a dedicated livestream on the Japanese video platform Niconico in November 2013.
Much like the last few big-budget games from Atlus, Persona 6 is expected to have a multi-platform launch. Though Persona 3 Reload was a day-one addition to Xbox Game Pass and Persona 4 Revival is confirmed as being the same, it is unlikely that Sega would extend a similar arrangement to a new mainline entry without significantly greater financial incentives.
