Ryoji Mochizuki was one of the most interesting characters in Persona 3, and Persona 6 may be able to thrive with a character in a similar vein. There are a lot of things that Persona 6 can take from past games, from mechanics to character archetypes. In particular, Ryoji is a unique character in the series who managed to deliver in an impressive fashion. Persona 6's cast will need characters who can similarly strike a chord with players during the story. While Ryoji's gimmick was unique, it isn't one that can't be repeated with another character in a future game.

There are many things that Persona 6 can take from Persona 3. Of course, Persona 3 led to the formula that would make the series famous, mixing a calendar-based storyline with the Social Link feature that added plenty of character to the games. The release of Persona 3 Reload not only improved on the original, but it also brought Persona 3 back to a prominent position in the public eye. There are also other aspects of the game that Persona 6 can glean some ideas from, such as the game-spanning dungeon of Tartarus. What follows is that Persona 3 has a lot to offer as a source of inspiration.

Ryoji's Character Story Could Be Great Inspiration For a Character in Persona 6

Ryoji's True Identity Was a Major Twist in Persona 3

Even though Ryoji never becomes one of the player's party members in Persona 3, he's a vitally important figure in the narrative. Appearing right after a major twist in the story, Ryoji is an exchange student who befriends the members of S.E.E.S. However, there is far more to him than originally meets the eye. Ryoji is actually the incarnation of death, Nyx Avatar, as well as Pharos, the mysterious boy who met the protagonist several times. Despite these several shady identities, Ryoji himself isn't a bad guy, adding a tragic twist to his role.

Ryoji isn't the first Shin Megami Tensei character with multiple names, as shown by Louis Cypher and Louisa Ferre in past games.

Persona 6 Can Also Utilize Characters With Secret Identities

A character playing multiple roles could be an interesting twist in Persona 6 as well. This could be doubly true if the theme of Persona 6 allows a character to embody two different identities or positions in the plot. After all, the series is no stranger to plot twists, so a shocking revelation partway through Persona 6 would not feel out of place. In addition, given proper time, it would be interesting to see a character wrestle with conflicting loyalties or duties, especially if they are close to the protagonist. In that sense, a Ryoji figure could be enthralling in Persona 6.

Persona 6 Could Get Creative With Ryoji's Gimmick

Including a character like Ryoji could also introduce a few exciting possibilities both story and gameplay-wise. For example, if a character with multiple roles is a party member in Persona 6, then their subplot could have major repercussions. The revelation of their true identity could change their role in the party, or even give their Persona different abilities. In a more dramatic example, it's possible that Persona 6's protagonist could have a role similar to Ryoji, balancing multiple social groups and public faces during the story. This approach would make Persona 6 a complicated game, but provide a lot of opportunities for intrigue.

Ryoji Mochizuki was an intriguing figure in Persona 3, and the source of a major plot twist. He also represents a lot of potential for Persona 6's story as well. It could be a big change for Persona's past traditions, or bring something entirely new to the games. A character in Ryoji's image can add a lot of mystery and charm to the game, especially if the twist of their hidden identities is handled well. Ryoji's presence in Persona 3 could be an excellent inspiration for a Persona 6 character.
