Players of Phasmophobia who want to hunt for Ghosts inside a house that isn’t a single-storey bungalow might want to consider going to 42 Edgefield Road. Affectionately called Edgefield by fans, this small map is different compared to other houses in game due to its two-storey layout, giving players more room upstairs to hunt for Ghosts among the house’s many bedrooms.

Due to the rather congested floor area of the location, Edgefield makes for a rather claustrophobic experience, especially when trying to figure out where to hunt for the Ghost the first time. However, its thin hallways to pave the way to multiple hiding spots across rooms, giving players a lot of room to hide from Ghosts during their Hunts. For players who want to ace their ghost-hunting experiences in Edgefield, just how can players maximize this map?

42 Edgefield Road: The Basic Look

Edgefield - Dining Room

Serving as the Phasmophobia horror game’s version of a two-storey house, 42 Edgefield Road is reminiscent of a typical house suited for a rather large family group. Still under the category of Small Maps in Phasmophobia, Edgefield seems a rather complex house due to its congested rooms, which in turn makes it rather claustrophobic to explore. However, players who know their way around the map can find easy ways to escape Ghosts during Hunts, or even have more efficient ways to gather evidence. Here are some numbers to check out:

  • Category: Small
  • Floors: 3
  • Rooms: 7 (1F), 8 (2F), 1 (B)
  • Faucets: 4

The Structure: Congested But Traditional

Edgefield - Exterior

Going into 42 Edgefield Road for the first time definitely feels overwhelming for the new Phasmophobia player, especially with the number of immediate accessible rooms with no discernable format. However, one might be able to explore Edgefield much easier if they consider how its internal layout its that of a realistic house in the real world. In turn, here are the locations inside the house that are worth the exploration:

1F, Around The House

Edgefield - 1F Map
  • 1F - Hallway: Directly facing the front door is a Hallway directly leading to the main area of the house, alongside a stairwell to the second floor beside it.
  • 1F - Living Room: To the immediate left of the entrance is a doorway going to the Living Room, perhaps one of the largest areas in the house. It has the characteristic furniture set and an entertainment system. It’s relatively closed off to the rest of the house, making this an ideal and equally-dangerous Ghost Room.
  • 1F - Kitchen: Directly after the Living Room is another leftside doorway leading into the main Kitchen area. It’s characterized by a traditional set of appliances on the side and counters for the home cooks. To the end of the Kitchen is a small Utility area, which also serves as the main laundry room of the house. To the right of the Kitchen doorway is a Toilet, with standard bathroom utilities such as the toilet and the sink. It’s located within the Kitchen area, meaning players need to exit the Toilet and then exit the Kitchen proper to escape. Ghosts who are fast enough may catch up with players easily here, but thankfully death scenes in Phasmophobia aren’t gory unlike other horror games.
  • 1F - Dining Room: To the opposite end of the Kitchen is the Dining Room, a rather spacious dining area with a long table as well as generous seating for guests.
  • 1F - Garage: On one end of the Dining Room is the Garage, a compact space fitting one (1) car alongside basic hardware storage options and a workstation.
  • 1F - Hallway (Backdoor): On the end of the Hallway is a small doorway leading to Hallway (Backdoor), a small area supposedly leading to a house exit.

Basement Access

Edgefield - Basement Map
  • Basement: Going down the stairwell leads players to the Basement proper, an L-shaped corridor that is rather compact.
  • Basement (Storage): Near the end of the Basement corridor is a doorway leading into Basement (Storage), a standard storage location at homes that may be a rather compact zone lethal in Ghost Hunts.

2F, Near The Stairway

Edgefield - 2F Map 1
  • 2F - Upstairs Hallway: Perhaps the most complex area of the Phasmophobia house across any difficulty, the Upstairs Hallway is a path circling around the stairway that passes by all of the major upstairs rooms in the house.
  • 2F - Small Blue Bedroom: To the immediate left of the staircase is the Small Blue Bedroom, a basic bedroom with its single bed, storage options, and a small closet.
  • 2F - Orange Bedroom: Right beside the Small Blue Bedroom is the Orange Bedroom, characterized with a more feminine theme.

  • 2F - Bathroom (Upstairs): To the left of the Girls Kids Redroom is the Bathroom (Upstairs), serving as the main bathroom of these quarters. This is chracterized by a more sizeable floor area, built to accommodate the occupants of the two (2) former rooms.
  • 2F - Purple Bedroom: To the left of the Bathroom (Upstairs) is the Purple Bedroom, characterized by a more mature feminine theme with an accompanying Purple Bedroom (Bathroom) location, with a smaller floor area to accommodate its fewer occupants.

2F, Back Of The Stairway

Edgefield - 2F Map 2
  • 2F - Green Bedroom: To the left of Purple Bedroom is another child’s bedroom with similar components, but this time with its Green Bedroom (Bathroom) having a 90-degree angle difference in location. This bedroom is also perpendicular to the stairway, making all the rooms beyond this one much harder to maneuver during Hunts.
  • Large Blue Bedroom: To the left of the Green Bedroom is the Large Blue Bedroom, evidently more sizeable in terms of floor area. It has the staple bedroom components on top of its own Large Blue Bedroom (Bathroom) in a separate adjacent room.
  • Master Bedroom: The largest room in the household is the Master Bedroom located at the back fo the staircase. It’s a sizeable room with a large bed and multiple storage options, alongside more open areas for players to move around in. It has a separate Master Bedroom (Bathroom) that has more wiggle room separating the toilet, the sink, and the bathing area proper.

Hunting Focus: Items Of Interest In 42 Edgefield Road

Edgefield - Interior

While players can spend much of their time in Phasmophobia looking for evidences to figure out the Ghost they’re hunting, there are other ways for players to maximize their time in a case within the horror game. For instance, finding relevant items of interest such as the Bone and Cursed Items may be able to net them more XP and Money for that particular session. Here are other things to take note of:

Bone Spots

Edgefield - Bone

Although the Bone doesn’t necessarily help players figure out the type of Ghost they’re dealing with, completionists may appreciate finding out where the Bone is for the purposes of extra XP and Money. Thankfully, those who played the game long enough may be able to easily identify the location of a Bone provided they know one relevant clue: it’s almost always near the center of any one room. In that case, here are some tips to spot the Bone in Edgefield much faster:

  • Consider piles of objects: When looking for the Bone in Edgefield, consider looking into piles of objects in the area as smaller Bones may hide themselves there. These include the rug and other objects in the 1F - Utility area, as well as near one of the blue bedrooms in the second floor.
  • Check corners: Due to the congested nature of Edgefield, it helps for players to also consider checking “corners” of any one location they think may have the Bone. That’s because the condensed nature of objects in the area may obscure line of sight with the Bone unless specifically pointed at with a Flashlight.

Cursed Item Locations

Cursed Item - Summoning Circle being lit

Aside from the evidence and the Bone, players may also find a wide variety of Cursed Items around Edgefield. While these also give XP and Money when photographed, they’re more relevant in how they can be used to the team’s advantage (or disadvantage) once they’re located in the game. Here are spots where Cursed Items often appear in 42 Edgefield Road, which players of the horror co-op game might want to take note of::

  • Tarot Cards: Players may find the Tarot Cards on the table closest to the Foyer.
  • Music Box: Players in the 1F - Living Room may want to check out the table with the lamp, as the Music Box may spawn there.
  • Ouija Board: Players who venture in the 1F - Utility area may want to look under a metal rack, which usually houses the Ouija Board.
  • Voodoo Doll: Players may find the Voodoo Doll sitting on the bed inside the large blue bedroom.
  • Summoning Circle: The segmented room in the Basement may have the Summoning Circle spread on the floor.
  • Haunted Mirror: Players may want to venture into the 2F - Hallway to see the Haunted Mirror, which is usually hanging in front of the stairs.

Investigation Focus: Ideal Equipment Spots In 42 Edgefield Road

Edgefield - Map Loading

Despite the nature of Edgefield as a "Small" Map, it's by no means easily navigable. Due to its many number of rooms, Edgefield is as small as it is congested, meaning it's tricky for setups should players not know where to begin and very deadly for Phasmophobia Ghosts who engage in the Hunt. Players who want to perfect their Edgefield experience may want to consider some ghost-detection strategies with their equipment.

Setting Up Gear Synergies

Edgefield - Equipment in the truck

Given the congested nature of Edgefield's rooms, it's important or players to know exactly what gear to carry with them, especially if they end up being lost in its areas. This is on top of the fact that the rather complex angles of the room may need players to manually look into their equipment in order to find the evidence they're looking for. Here are ideal gear combinations:

  • Camera, EMF Reader, UV Flashlight: Given how Tanglewood is the game's tutorial map, it makes sense for it to be condensed and not-so-difficult to navigate. This equipment trio is a great way to potentially spot Ghost Rooms while finding prints at the same time. Whenever the EMF Reader spikes in a particular area, the UV Flashlight can immediate confirm prints to be photographed.
  • Camera, Thermometer, Flashlight: Since freezing temperatures are one of the most common Ghost evidences out there, it's safe to say this equipment trio is an ideal choice for most roaming teams. With the Thermometer capable of pinpointing potential or actual Ghost Rooms due to low temperatures, players can immediately switch the Thermometer with another equipment while the Camera stays for easy access to pictures should players spot activities and other events.
  • Lighter, Candle, Ghost Writing Book: Thanks to the straightforward nature of Tanglewood, carrying this trio isn't that much of a risk for players. Aside from the Candle being a safe and non-electric way of having a light source, it's a great way of detecting fire-blowers like the Onryo as well as lighting the Ghost Writing Book when set up near it.

Setting Up Detection Equipment

Edgefield - Equipment Placement

Due to the congested nature of the rooms in Edgefield, some players might find it a bit difficult to navigate through the area, especially when setting up specific equipment. However, it may help for players to understand that there might be an ideal "sequence" of equipment setups that players may want to consider in the horror title:

  • Secure corners with the Video Camera (Tripod), DOTS Projector: Given the condensed nature of Edgefield, it helps for Video Cameras (Tripod) to be placed in areas that hit many angles at the same time. This is crucial especially when trying to determine whether particular areas have roaming Ghosts in Edgefield's tight spaces, such as in the 2F - Upstairs Hallway, or the 1F - Hallway facing either the 1F - Living Room, 1F - Dining Room, 1F - Kitchen, or 1F - Garage.
  • Check multiple angles for Motion Sensors, Salt Shakers: Given how the Motion Sensors and Salt Shakers more or less cover a single "spot" for Ghosts that pass through them, they're best placed in locations that hit multiple angles. This means areas such as the 2F - Upstairs Hallway, or corners close to the 1F - Kitchen, 1F - Living Room, and 1F - Dining Room are great ways of determining whether Ghosts roam around these locations.
  • Cover many areas at once with the Sound Sensor: With the Sound Sensor capable of covering a wide area, it can become quite the godsend for a condensed space like Edgefield. Given its multiple levels and corners, a properly-placed Sound Sensor can help players indicate spots with the highest activity. Not only that, but constant repositioning of the Sound Sensor may be able to pinpoint Ghost Rooms quickly.

Setting Up Ghost Defenses

Edgefield - Crucifix

Since Edgefield has quite the condensed rooms, it's not just difficult to navigate, but exceptionally hard to explore especially when running away from Ghosts during Hunts in the rather campy horror game. However, there are ways players can set up defensive measures such as the Crucifix and Smudge Sticks more efficiently. Here are paths and methods to consider:

  • Put the center as a priority: When it comes to putting up defensive mechanisms during a case, it helps to place the Crucifix on the center of rooms, particularly those with isolated exits. That way, the general radius of the Crucifix may be able to repel Ghosts as soon as they try to initiate a Hunt.
  • The Living Room is a useful nexus: One of the best locations to put Smudge Sticks in this map is in the Living Room, particularly the higher surfaces that can give easy access for escapees from the Master Bedroom, the Dining Room/Kitchen, and even the Utility Room/Garage.
  • The Foyer is relatively safe: Aside from placing items for pick up just outside Tanglewood, it can greatly help to maximize the Foyer as a means to pick up survival items such as Smudge Sticks. In this case, survivors can access Smudge Sticks in counters around the Foyer to escape Ghosts in the Nursery, Main Bathroom, and Boys Bedroom.

Survival Focus: How To Outlive the Ghost In 42 Edgefield Road

Edgefield - Smudge Stick

Players who are new to Phasmophobia may soon learn that investigating isn’t necessarily the only thing they should expect from the game. Should the Ghost find anyone’s Sanity to be low enough, it can engage in a Hunt and attempt to pursue and kill any member of the horror game it finds. Thankfully, players may be able to elude the Ghost long enough to live and investigate for another few minutes. And to those who want to get the jump on the Ghost, here are ways on how to survive Edgefield more efficiently:

Hiding Spots In The House

Edgefield - Hiding Spots

Players who find themselves alone in a Ghost Hunt might feel helpless about the situation, but their chances of survival drastically increase if they know where hiding spots are in the house. These take the form of closets, lockers, and other enclosed spaces that fit players and are situated in tricky corners Ghosts may not immediately be able to locate. In a rather congested house like Edgefield, such a home could be a lifesaver. Here are hiding spots in the house:

RELATED: Great Horror Games On Steam That Deserve More Attention

  • 1F - Basement: The end of the Basement hallway is a locker.
  • 1F - Garage: Upon entering the 1F - Garage, its left-most side should have a locker.
  • 2F - Small Blue Bedroom: There is one closet in the Small Blue Bedroom.
  • 2F - Hallway: There are two closets in the 2F - Hallway, directly in front of the Green Bedroom. Not both of them are always available for hiding.
  • 2F - Large Blue Bedroom: There is one closet in the Large Blue Bedroom, in front of the door to the Large Blue Bedroom (Bathroom).
  • 2F - Master Bedroom: There are two closets in the Master Bedroom, directly beside the door.

In terms of the number of hiding spots available, here are statistics for players to consider:

  • Amateur: 0
  • Intermediate: 6 or less
  • Professional: 7 or less
  • Nightmare: 8 or less
  • Playing with 3 members: +1 open hiding spot
  • Playing with 4 members: +2 open hiding spots

Looping In The Residence

Just because players found themselves pursued by a Ghost doesn’t mean it’s game over for them. If they know where to go to the congested Edgefield, players may be able to loop the Ghost for long enough that their Hunting period expires and the players survive without a hitch. In that regard, here are ideal places where players can initiate loops:

  • 1F - Living Room: Due to the space of the 1F - Living Room, its central couch serves as the best way for a Ghost looping. Not only that, its closed space and single entrance means players have an easier time entering and escape the room when necessary.
