Nintendo has recently announced a new free Pikmin 4 update, which will be available in November. Pikmin 4 was one of the best exclusives of the original Nintendo Switch, and the upcoming update will bring some interesting new features to it.
Released for the Nintendo Switch in 2023, Pikmin 4 was a nice surprise for fans, coming a decade after the critically-acclaimed Pikmin 3. Pikmin 4 received very positive reviews, with critics praising its challenging real-time strategy gameplay and level design, and the title currently stands with an average score of 88 on OpenCritic.
Pikmin Can't Wait Too Long to Make its Mark on The Switch 2
Nintendo has historically taken its time with the Pikmin franchise, but it will hopefully pick up the pace for the next entry on the Switch 2.
What Will Be Included in Pikmin 4's November 2025 Update?
- Decor Pikmin
- Photo Mode
- New Creature Activity Levels
The Pikmin 4 update coming in November will bring three major new features: Decor Pikmin, Photo Mode, and the ability to pick different Creature Activity Levels. Decor Pikmin were originally featured in Pikmin Bloom, and they will challenge players to find them in the wild. Each Decor Pikmin has a unique look, and they can be used in the player’s squad after being found. With Photo Mode, gamers will be able to take screenshots from various angles, and decorate the pictures with filters, stamps, and characters. Finally, Pikmin 4 will add two new Creature Activity Levels, allowing gamers to pick the “Relaxed” mode and have an easier time playing, or face even harder challenges with “Fierce” mode.
Pikmin fans will certainly be happy to see this update after a disappointing early October. At the start of the month, Nintendo unveiled two Pikmin short films, which many gamers thought were teasers, but ended up being simply a showcase created by Nintendo Pictures.
What fans may not be entirely satisfied with is how Pikmin 4 has still not received a Nintendo Switch 2 upgrade. Earlier this year, rumors from a reliable leaker indicated that Pikmin 4 could get a Switch 2 update soon, but this has yet to happen.
Even if the Switch 2 upgrade does not become a reality, there’s a fairly decent chance that Nintendo will continue to support Pikmin 4, though. Pikmin 4 was a major hit, selling over three million units worldwide. It remains to be seen if even more updates will be on the horizon, though, or if Nintendo will decide to move the franchise forward by announcing Pikmin 5 or a similar entry in the franchise.
