Disney's Pirates of the Caribbean is one of the company's most popular and successful franchises. While there hasn't been a movie since 2017, there has been no shortage of talk about bringing Pirates of the Caribbean 6 to life from fans and those involved in the industry.
The movie has been in and out of development ever since Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales, but various situations have caused delays and led to people thinking it would never happen. However, a brand new interview has given fans of this franchise hope that another movie will be made soon.
Johnny Depp Needs To Return To Pirates Of The Caribbean, But Not As The Lead
Johnny Depp returning to Pirates of the Caribbean is the right move, but he should be in a smaller role.
Jerry Bruckheimer has been a producer throughout the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, and he recently provided the most significant update for a potential sixth installment that fans have had for a long time. He spoke to ScreenRant about the movie and made it clear that work is actively taking place to bring it to life. However, even more interestingly, he teased the possibility of some of the previous cast making a return.
Jerry Bruckheimer: We’re working on a screenplay. Hopefully we’ll get it right — and then we’ll make it. We really want to make it, that’s for sure.
ScreenRant: A continuation or something new?
Bruckheimer: It’ll be a new take on it.
ScreenRant: New take, new actors?
Jerry Bruckheimer: Well, not all new actors. We’ll have some back.
ScreenRant: Okay...
Bruckheimer: I’m not going to tell you which ones — you’ll have to guess.
While it's unknown who will be returning to the high seas to be part of Pirates of the Caribbean 6, there's no shortage of options due to how many amazing characters have been involved in the previous movies. The franchise has always thrived from having a broad ensemble cast who have all been given time to develop their characters and personalities in a bid to make them feel compelling to an audience. On top of that, Disney has brought characters back who were seemingly dead at points, proving that nothing is truly off-limits when it comes to the Pirates of the Caribbean movies. That opens up the possibilities for those involved in writing the screenplay to be creative, make surprises, and bring a lot of fun to the movie.
Orlando Bloom played a massive role in the original trilogy as Will Turner, who audiences saw transition from being a blacksmith to a full-fledged pirate. He recently teased the idea of himself returning to the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, admitting it would be "great to get the band back together" in regards to the original cast. While it's not confirmation that he will be personally involved in a future movie, it does highlight that he's at least open to the idea of being part of whatever Disney is planning, especially since his character was so important to the overall story.
Johnny Depp is one person many fans would want to see return to Pirates of the Caribbean, as he has arguably been the face of the franchise since the start. Disney controversially dropped him after the allegations made by Amber Heard. Still, after winning the defamation trial, there is a potential that Disney would change their mind and try to work with him in some capacity moving forward to have Jack Sparrow as part of the film. However, the idea that more Pirates of the Caribbean movies are coming is exciting enough, as they have always been entertaining to watch, with this being a world that certainly has more potential to be explored.
