A Nintendo Switch version of Pizza Tower has been announced. What's more, the hit game is already available on the Switch.
Developed by indie studio Tour De Pizza, Pizza Tower is a critically acclaimed platformer inspired by Nintendo's long-running Wario Land series. It has so far only been available on PC, which it reached via Steam in late January 2023.
Pizza Tower Switch Port Shadow-Dropped Today
Tour De Pizza is now following up on that move with a Switch version of the game, which has just been announced during Nintendo's latest Indie World showcase. The Pizza Tower Switch port trailer premiered at the very end of the August 27 livestream, with that placement in the lineup suggesting Nintendo considered it to be one of the highlights of the event. The 80-second trailer concluded with the promise that the game would reach the Switch later today. This came to pass within one hour of the Indie World broadcast, as Pizza Tower landed on the eShop circa 8am PT / 11am ET / 5pm CET.
The Switch port of the widely lauded platformer is priced at $19.99, the same as the Steam original. This equates to around $1 per level. While a typical first run through the game is estimated to take around six hours, completionists are likely to get roughly 40 hours of entertainment out of Pizza Tower, according to How Long To Beat's crowdsourced data.
While Pizza Tower has been widely touted as one of the best platformers of 2023, its overall critical reception is even more impressive beyond the confines of its genre. That's underlined by its "Mighty" OpenCritic rating, derived from its aggregate score of 91 and a perfect 100% reviewer recommendation rate. Ditto for its 55,000 "Very Positive" user reviews on Steam. Both players and critics alike have hence made Pizza Tower one of the highest-rated games of 2023.
Much like the Wario Land franchise that inspired it, Tour De Pizza's hit title boasts fast-paced gameplay that combines platforming with boss fights. The game's art style is reminiscent of '90s cartoon shows from Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network, whereas its soundtrack offers a distinct combination of energetic genres like metal and funk. Other than the Switch version of Pizza Tower, the August 27 Indie World livestream featured 16 additional trailers. Some of the other games showcased during the event were Moth Kubit, Coffee Talk Tokyo, and Morsels, all of which were announced during the broadcast. Neva, an otherworldly adventure game from GRIS developer Nomada Studio, also received a release date during the livestream, October 15.
